Saint-Pierre-Chérignat walks
Along the Béraude via La Roche Branlante
Explore the banks of the Béraude, a little-known river. This walk also takes you through the Epagne Forest, a listed site with soil that is unique to the region. Almost at the end of the route, the Roche Branlante, once again by the water’s edge, will amaze many.
Circular des Bordes and Catheraud
This is a fairly steep and challenging ride for horses. It is fairly easy for riders, especially if they are comfortable with long climbs... Pretty scenery around Les Retouillères. It can be done in either direction, with the biggest climb being on the way to Catheraud on the Puy de Jabreilles side. The paths are quite rocky, so it's best to walk at a steady pace on this ride. The small roads you ride along are quiet, lined with trees and have beautiful verges.
Châtelard Oppidum
This short walk through woodland allows you to explore the listed site of the Châtelard oppidum. It is a Gallo-Roman fortified settlement on a barred spur, consisting of a platform covering around ten hectares and side terraces, now entirely wooded. The route features a steep climb over the first 600 metres, followed by a flat path around the perimeter of the site.
The Bois des Bœufs route in Bourganeuf
Starting from the medieval town of Bourganeuf, this route immerses you in a haven of countryside. Between the murmur of the Mourne waterfalls and the rocky panorama of the Roches de Mazuras, you’ll pass through a sanctuary of greenery where time seems to have stood still.
Route No. 45: Le Bois des Bœufs.
Along the Mourne to the Roches Mazuras
The first part of the circuit takes you along La Mourne, a lively little river with numerous waterfalls and cascades. The second part takes you through the Faux-Mazuras forest, and the third part finally takes you to the top of the Roches Mazuras, in a corner of moorland, where you can enjoy unobstructed views.
Mont de Transet and La Chaise à Thauron
This 5 km route, which links two villages, mainly follows very old rural paths, cleaned by volunteers from the Pierres et Nature de Thauron association: two recent forest tracks, created for the exploitation of conifer plantations, and a tarmaced communal road, which has a long history.
Valleys and forests of the Ambazac mountains from Jonas Pond.
Circular loop with varied scenery, often in the forest, partly on the Sentier des Moines trail. Magnificent in the autumn colours of the Limousin region.
Moderator's note: hike modified on 11/05/2023 due to private property issues. To reach point 4 through the fields after going around the pond, the route now passes through Bourdaleine.
Through the Thaurion Gorges
Starting from Thauron, this is an easy walk that takes you along a small section of the magnificent Thaurion Gorges, then into the countryside.
The Muret Heights
To ease into the climb up the small Monts d’Ambazac mountain range, I suggest you take the lovely forest paths overlooking the Domaine du Muret in Ambazac.
From Muret to the edge of Les Vergnes
This walk is situated at the foot of the foothills of the Monts d’Ambazac range. Rich in varied landscapes, it alternates between forest trails, visits to small villages and sections across the plains.
Circular loop from Saint-Pardoux-Morterolles to the Augerolles waterfalls
A circular route starting from Saint-Pardoux-Morterolles that also allows you to discover the Cascades d'Augerolles site. This hike passes through meadows, woods, forests and the areas around the waterfalls. A few panoramic views, streams and a plank bridge complete the picture. It should be noted that the roads, where there are any, are forest roads, some paved and some unpaved, but in any case very little used.
From Fursac to Paulhac
Discover the charming village of Paulhac, with its Templar Commandery (Gothic church and chapel).
The Bessines-sur-Gartempe Uranium Mine Trail
A walk along a narrow, steep path overlooking the Gartempe bypass.
Les Pierres Civières
Hike in the Maupuy massif above Guéret. This route will allow you to discover magnificent views and the old granite quarries.
The hike is partly marked with yellow signs managed by the Monts de Guéret Tourist Office.
