Malzy walks

This is a lovely walk in the heart of the lush Thiérache region, with no particular technical difficulty, which will take you through the villages of Malzy, Proisy and Romery, where you can admire various monuments: wayside shrines, wash houses and 16th-century fortified churches; and, above all, gain an understanding of the purpose and operation of the Oise flood control dam.

Starting from Sorbais, Didou the little owl invites you into his domain: the bocage She offers you an educational and informative exploration of the upper Oise valley, its bocage, its wildlife and flora, and its traditional activities. So, between (1) and (3), you can follow the first section of the trail, which is marked with themed information panels.

This second stage invites you to discover the bocage landscape of Avesnois and Thiérache, between Maroilles and Le Nouvion-en-Thiérache. Along the way, take the time to taste the delicious Maroilles cheese!

The village of Étreaupont is crossed by the Oise and the Ton rivers and is situated on the Thiérache Greenway, a converted railway line linking Guise to Hirson. The circular route starts at Saint-Martin Church, follows the Axe Vert for a while towards Guise, and partly follows theGR®122to return to the village.

Unmarked route. A circular route around Vervins that will take you along old paths and alleyways: the Chemin du Verbinum (an ancient Roman road linking Bavay to Reims), the Ruelle de la Basse Suisse, the Chemin de la Fontaine des Prêtres, etc. The route passes by the statue of ‘La Danseuse’ by the French sculptor Cladel Marius Léon (1883–1948), who also created the war memorial in Origny-Sainte-Benoîte.

A 10 km walk starting from Bernot, in the Aisne department, near Saint-Quentin, along the banks of the Oise, dear to Robert Louis Stevenson, and the Sambre-Oise Canal. The first part is rural, followed by a more wooded section. Photography enthusiasts, don't forget your camera.

You leave the lively little streets behind and open up to vast horizons, where the green meadows and shimmering crops invite you to breathe more deeply. As you approach Catillon-sur-Sambre, the atmosphere is adorned with reflections of water and rural gentleness, with its peaceful banks and unspoilt authenticity. This walk combines the best of both worlds: the friendliness of the villages and the tranquillity of the surrounding nature.

This family-friendly route through the hedgerow countryside is easy. It runs alongside country hedgerows and streets lined with traditional houses. As you wind your way along the paths, small heritage sites and local place-names evoke the legends of the Avesnois region.

In the heart of the Vervinois region, a bucolic trail begins in Vaux-Andigny, inviting you to leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind and immerse yourself in the generous countryside. Under the cover of ancient hedgerows, you walk along meadows bathed in light before reaching Andigny-les-Fermes, where the discreet charm of half-timbered farms reveals a preserved rural heritage. You then reach Mennevret, nestled in a green valley where the murmur of the stream and the ballet of dragonflies set the pace for your walk. Gentle hills appear on the horizon before opening up to the final stage in Régnicourt, a peaceful village with shady lanes. Bring a water bottle and a good pair of shoes: this accessible route is best enjoyed at the pace of the seasons, stopping to contemplate the scenery.

Starting from Saint-Martin-Rivière, this route takes you into the heart of the rolling countryside of northern Aisne, between peaceful bocage and charming villages. Following small roads and hedged paths, you pass through Ribeauville, then Wassigny, an ancient fortified town where history is evident in every stone. The walk continues towards La Vallée-Mulâtre, nestled in lush greenery, before reaching Molain, where open meadows and farm tracks offer a breath of fresh air. This accessible and rejuvenating circuit combines rural heritage and gentle landscapes for an authentic immersion in the heart of the Thiérache region.

Immerse yourself in history and nature with this 10 km hike in Bois-lès-Pargny! Admire the elegance of the Bois-lès-Pargny keep, a unique 17th-century pink brick construction, listed as a Historic Monument since 1927, as well as the serenity of Saint-Rémi Church. For the more curious, don't miss the detour (only 2.6 km round trip) to the mythical Verziau de Gargantua. This menhir, over 4 m high and listed since 1889, is linked to an ancient local legend. A perfect getaway, harmoniously combining a walk in the woods, rural discovery and the remains of a rich past.

Let yourself be tempted by a rejuvenating getaway of just over 7 km in the heart of the Aisne region. This circular route, located between the Vilpion and Serre rivers, offers a moment of absolute calm between Marcy-sous-Marle and Voyenne. Heritage enthusiasts will be delighted to discover two architectural gems: the majestic Saint-Médard Church in Marcy and the elegant Saint-Rémi Church in Voyenne, silent witnesses to local history.

This route, in the heart of the Thiérache and the Lower Helpe Valley, passes through very wet areas. It is intended for experienced walkers given the nature of the terrain.

Along the way, Ors reveals its discreet charm and green surroundings, offering a peaceful place to stop. The route continues towards Catillon-sur-Sambre, where water and rural panoramas blend together in a soothing atmosphere. Between country paths, bursts of greenery and authentic villages, this walk combines the pleasure of walking with the discovery of rural heritage. An invitation to slow down and savour the simple riches of the countryside.

From Saint-Benin, the walk sets off along paths lined with fields, where the light plays with the golden hues of the crops. Very quickly, the horizon is dotted with hedges and clusters of trees that seem to guard the secrets of the seasons. As you approach Escaufourt, the discreet charm of the brick houses and the tranquillity of the narrow streets offer a gentle respite before continuing on your way to Saint-Souplet. Here, the countryside blends with village life, between silhouettes of bell towers, the scent of fresh earth and the rustling of the wind in the hedges. This is a route that combines simplicity and authenticity, perfect for savouring the peace, beauty and natural rhythm of the Cambrésis region.

Le Cateau-Cambrésis is a town generally known for its museum dedicated to the painter Henri Matisse, a native of the town, which was founded in 1952 by the artist himself and is now housed in the former Palais Fénelon.
