Le Barcarès walks

Take a stroll through the Natura 2000 area in the Parc des Dosses. Take the opportunity to discover the flora and fauna of this unspoilt area.

This walk has two attractions: first, the history of the fort, and second, the beautiful scenery (mountains, foothills of the Corbières, ponds and the Mediterranean Sea).

Numerous restored capitelles (drystone shelters) and panoramic views over the Etang de Leucate and the coast.

This easy loop passes through various places called cortal, serre, plat or coume. In the middle of the heath with its holm oaks, box trees, rosemary and junipers, you can admire splendid views of the Étang de Leucate, as well as primitive stone constructions called drystone shelters, a legacy of medieval pastoralism.

Far from the hustle and bustle of Port Leucate, there is a magnificent place where peace reigns. The cliffs of Leucate. They link Leucate Village to La Franqui and this short walkk will let you discover their different features: cliffs, vineyards and pastures for sheep.

This trail is part of the Narbonnaise en Méditerranée Regional Park Heritage Trail. This loop will take you to the foot of Leucate Castle before descending to the banks of the lake. Around a bend or from the lake shore, you will be surprised by the landscape stretching from the Corbières to the Pyrenees.

Enjoy a beautiful walk along the top of the Leucate cliffs. There are no difficulties, but be careful of the heat in summer as you will be in direct sunlight the whole time.

Walk along the hillsides of the picturesque village of Caves, which takes its name from its wine-growing past. Through the heathland, among holm oaks, rosemary and frigoules, numerous dry stone walls and old sheepfolds bear witness to a pastoral presence that has now disappeared. During the climb, on a clear day, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the coastline from La Palme to Barcarès.

A pleasant walk around the Villeneuve de la Raho lake with a semi-wild section where you can see a large number of birds.

Loop hike to reach the Montoulieu-Perillos weather radar. From the village of Perillos (abandoned village), easy hike on a stony path (emergency access) (beware, no shade) to the radar, but the descent is more difficult. You can park near the Sainte Barbe chapel (point 11) to avoid having to climb back up to the village at the end of the hike, but the village is also well worth a visit.

This is an alternative way to the Tour de Tautavel from Cases-de-Pène. Advantage: sheltered from the tramontana wind. Disadvantage: sunny in summer.

An easy hike that starts in the pretty little village of La Palme and forms a loop. The first third of the route climbs gently to the top of the plateau. The second part is relatively flat with a multitude of paths winding through the heath. The walk ends with a gentle slope, offering superb views of the sea, the Étang de la Palme and the old salt marshes.

This is a fairly challenging route to reach the peaks of the iconic Vingrau mountain, a climber's paradise and world-famous site. After an easy approach walk to Trauc del Cavall, the rest of the hike involves a radical change of terrain that requires caution and endurance. However, the magnificent views to the east and west are well worth the effort.

In the foothills of the Corbières, search for the ancient Roman roads and milestones left by the Romans themselves, and have fun deciphering what is written on them. Then stroll through the hills in search of the flora and fauna of these sun-scorched landscapes. Climb to higher ground and admire the view of the Étang de Leucate, watching the birds of prey in flight.

A getaway to the Catalan Corbières region, where you can discover Tautavel and its interesting heritage.

Despite its modest altitude (596 m), the Pic du Pied du Poul is nonetheless an exceptional viewpoint offering a 360° panorama of the Mediterranean Sea, the lakes, the Corbières, the Aude plain and the Pyrenees. While the ascent does not pose any real problems, the second part is for hikers who are used to walking on stony ground where it can sometimes be very difficult to see where you are going.

- From the Argelès-sur-Mer SNCF train station, climb up to the Tour de la Massane via marked trails and paths. - The hike can start from Valmy Castle near (3). See practical information. I recommend reading the practical information section regarding the different routes. The hike could be classified as difficult due to some very rough sections of the trail and the need for good navigation skills.

A beautiful hike with stunning views of the Ermitage Notre-Dame de Vie, the town of Argelès, the port and the sea. Short technical section with a steep, rocky climb, a mix of tracks and tarmac paths. Stunning views guaranteed, but little shade in summer...

Hike in the hills above Argelès, passing by the Hermitage of Notre-Dame de Vie and its Saint Jerome Chapel, then the Saint Laurent-du-Mont Chapel. Magnificent panoramic views of the Roussillon plain, Argelès-sur-Mer, the sea and the port. A varied hike with many wide tracks, beautiful single tracks in forests and a few technical sections on rocks and pebbles.

The beautiful village of Collioure, with its church tower standing right on the water's edge, is worth the trip alone! This hike offers a pleasant coastal route to get there. Beautiful views and a rich heritage await you.

A short loop east of the typical little village of Villesèque-des-Corbières. After crossing vineyards, the first challenge is the climb up to the plateau where, in the middle of the heath and a field of wind turbines, you will reach the Col de Gléon. On the way down, we will pass close to the Janfestre spring before tackling the second difficulty, a steep but short ramp, to reach the starting point via the Chemin de la Cabayride. ⚠️ 31/07/2025: Access to all the Corbières mountains is currently prohibited by the prefecture due to the risk of fire.
