From Rivesaltes or Salses-le-Château, take the D5 road inland to reach the village of Opoul-Périllos.
Avoid parking in the narrow streets; instead, use one of the available car parks, preferably the one at the start of the road to Feuilla (D5).
(S/E) From the Rue des Caves car park, turn left towards the centre of the village via Rue des Corbières and turn right onto Rue de la Carrerade (do not turn left towards the Château and Vingrau). At the left-hand bend, continue straight on along the unmarked dirt track (Ancien Chemin de Perillos) which follows the valley floor north-westwards.
Upon reaching the vineyards, the path climbs to the left then heads south, leading to an isolated house at Coma del Mir.
(1) Turn right onto a signposted stony path (yellow-white), which climbs gently to make a long detour to the south-west before turning right to head back up towards the Château until you reach the road. Just before the road, turn right to reach the orientation table.
(2) Continue northwards along the path that crosses the road, runs parallel to it, and eventually joins it, following it for 200 m. Ignore the path leading downhill to the right and take the start of the climb to the castle on the left.
(3) Climb the winding path towards Château d'Opoul, pass the first enclosure and emerge onto the oppidum at its northern end. Turn left onto the plateau to reach the ruins and their viewpoint.
(4) Explore the castle grounds at your leisure and return to the ascent path, which you follow down towards the east to get back to the road.
(3) Take the road north then north-east and leave it to take the signposted path on the left, which avoids the tarmac and rejoins the road at Coll de la Sabina (Col de la Sabine).
(5) Then take the path to the right and, at a cairn, head down to the north-east to join the marked and cairned trail. Take it to the right; after crossing a somewhat rough section, it turns south and begins the descent towards Opoul, via a long downhill traverse at the end of which hairpin bends lead back towards the vineyards and then to the end of a small road.
(6) Follow this road down; it turns right and enters the village (Rue Traverse de Périllos), ending at Rue de la Carrerade. Turn left and head for the car park (S/E).
