Park in the car park of the former cooperative winery in Leucate, at 1 Avenue Francis Vals. The tourist information point on this square provides maps and brochures on walks in the commune. The Sentier du Berger is marked in yellow and by themed plaster plaques depicting life in the village of Leucate in the past.
(S/E) Go down Avenue Francis Vals until the second street on the left. Turn left onto Rue du Cercle and continue straight ahead until you leave the village.
(1) At the junction with Chemin Neuf, turn left and then immediately right (signposted and start of the Sentier du Berger on the right).
Follow Chemin de la Fontaine de Loin for 300 m, then turn left towards the plateau. Continue for about 800 m, ignoring all other paths or tracks, until you reach a paved road.
(2) Continue along the path on the right for about 120m, then turn left towards the sheepfold and join a tarmac road.
(3) Continue towards the sea and the cliff, turning right onto the paved road, then left onto a small path marked in yellow. Follow the Sentier du Berger straight ahead for 500 metres until you reach the cliff.
(4) Turn right and follow the cliff for 300 metres until you reach a fork in the road on the right, signposted and marked, to return to the centre of the plateau.
(5) Back on the paved road, head towards the pine forest opposite. Follow the path for 800m, keeping straight ahead and ignoring the other paths on either side, until you reach a paved road. Then take this road to the left, which descends for 150m and joins a fork.
(6) Continue straight ahead, still descending, for about 300m.
(7) At a right-hand bend and a large crossroads, take the path on your left and continue downhill for another 300 metres. Join Rue des Amandiers and follow it straight ahead until you reach Avenue Francis Vals. Turn right and go up the avenue to arrive at your starting point, the car park of the former Leucate cooperative winery (S/E).
