Combine the pleasure of walking with the discovery of one of the most captivating episodes in local history. This route invites you on a real journey back in time. It was against this backdrop that the final act of Jean-Nicolas Stofflet’s life unfolded. A former gamekeeper for Count Colbert de Maulévrier, he became one of the leading figures of the Vendée uprising before being ambushed and arrested at daybreak, wounded by Republican bayonets. Amidst the typical landscapes of the Mauges and significant historical sites, this route takes you to the scene of a historic night that changed the region’s history forever.

In the woods of La Gautrèche and along tree-lined paths, you’ll discover a rural and bucolic landscape characteristic of the Mauges region. The great diversity of landscapes will make for a rich and varied walk.As this route covers a large part of the Jubaudière area, it will allow you to discover a town with many different facets.

Discover the heritage of Neuvy-en-Mauges as you walk along its footpaths. You’ll enjoy views of the Morosière estate, built in 1869 from stone and tuffeau, and the Manoir de l’Aunay Gontard, dating from the Classical period (17th and 18th centuries) and spared destruction during the Wars of the Vendée.

On small rural roads and numerous farm tracks, you will discover landscapes alternating between panoramic views and wooded valleys. This two-sided route allows you to start by travelling along small roads offering wide panoramic views of the Maugeoise countryside.The hike then takes you to the Èvre river. You can admire the winding course of the water through the fields and rocky hillsides.

Discover the peaceful countryside of the Mauges along this rural trail. You can enjoy the delightful setting of the rolling Mauges countryside as you pass through shady wooded areas. You’ll traverse a variety of landscapes, from country lanes with unobstructed views of the fields to sunken paths lined with oak trees. Near the car park, you’ll find the remains of an old mill, now a memorial to Jean-Nicolas Stofflet, a general in the War in the Vendée.

An eight-kilometre walk through the Anjou countryside starting from Saint-Quentin-en-Mauges to discover the historical heritage of the commune.

A magnificent walk along the River Évre and its mills: the Moulin Neuf and the Moulin de Pomail

This hike will allow you to discover the most beautiful aspects of the Mauges landscape while exploring places steeped in history. The first part of the trail takes you on a bucolic walk along the Beuvron River to the Château de la Morinière. Next, you will head to a place that is the stuff of dreams for any lover of Vendée history, a sunken path straight out of the stories of the Vendée wars: the "Chemin des Canons" (Cannon Path) used by the Republicans.

In the heart of the bocage countryside, let yourself be carried away on this literary stroll. Along the way, you’ll discover the splendid park and château of Martreil!

The Montatais Trail will take you on a tour of La Chapelle-Rousselin, its wind farm, its lake and its narrow streets.

A pleasant route through the Andrezé countryside, allowing you to discover the Étang de la Couderaie, the ruins of the Château des Hayes Gasselin and the Manoir de la Chaperonnière.

Stage Five.The route climbs, offering superb panoramic views over the wooded valleys. The path then descends towards the River Èvre: winding its way along towpaths and steep sections, the route follows the course of the river and past old mills all the way to Montrevault.

New walk: In the footsteps of the Petit-Anjou (historic train), created by the municipality of Beaupréau. Route starting from the former Beaupréau station, now Place du 8 Mai, towards La Chabossière

You’ll walk through the heart of hedgerows and old sunken lanes dotted with pollarded trees, where birdsong will follow in your footsteps. The meanders of the Èvre will reveal, amongst the branches of its riparian woodland, the old watermills set in motion by the music of the river’s flow.

The route continues as you leave the village of Le May-sur-Èvre and head into a valley where time seems to have stood still, amidst hedgerow-lined meadows and shaded riverbanks. From chapels to castles, various points of interest punctuate your journey.
