Description of the walk

Park in the car park near the multi-sports ground. Follow the blue signs.

(S/E) Head towards the playground, go round the tennis court, then turn left onto Rue du Chêne. Turn left again to follow the tree-lined path for about 400 metres.

(1) At the end of the path, take the path on the left until you reach the tarmac road, with a sewage treatment plant on the right. Turn right towards Les Montées.

(2) Follow the path on the left (not shown on the map) which climbs towards La Foutelaie. Then go round the house, following the path on the left, alongside the apple trees, until you reach the tarmac road (D762). Walk along the right-hand side of it, using the grass verge.

(3) Take the road on the left, cross the D762 carefully, and join the small road opposite leading to La Tuilerie. Walk past La Tuilerie and continue to the wayside shrine, then arrive at L’Aunay-au-Long.

(4) Take the road on the left for 300 metres, ignoring the path opposite, then turn right onto the path near a copse and head to the foot of the wind turbine. Follow the path to the foot of the other wind turbine.

(5) At the foot of the wind turbine, take the path on the left, running alongside the field, then the one on the right, to the Sablière copse, going round the ponds. Cross the Sablière, then turn left, following the edge of the copse. Turn left again to follow the wide dirt track which leads onto Rue de la Marchaiserie.

(6) Turn right onto it to reach Rue d’Anjou. Turn left onto the pavement in front of the cemetery and head towards the church. Walk past the town hall, cross Rue d’Anjou at the pedestrian crossing, then Avenue des Mauges, and head down to the right of the church until you reach Rue de l’Abbé Cantiteau. Turn right twice to immediately reach the car park at the multi-sports ground (S/E)

Worth a visit

Saint-Pavin Church: the history of the Wars of the Vendée is illustrated by the stained-glass windows of the church in Le Pin-en-Mauges. This building, rebuilt inthe 19th century by Abbé Raimbault, is entirely dedicated to the battles of 1793 and to Generalissimo Jacques Cathelineau, a local son.

Vendée Wars Museum: the collection can be viewed on request at the town hall.
