Gouesnou walks

A peaceful walk around the communal lake in Bourg-Blanc.These former meadows were used for tin mining by the Société Comiren (Compagnie Minière Rennanaise).Since mining ceased, a 6-hectare lake has been developed as a place for walking and relaxation, not to mention fishing for enthusiasts.

The starting point for this route is at the Espace Louis Coz, marked in blue. Along this educational route, you will discover five information panels providing information about the different species of apple trees and apples in general. Designed for Sunday walkers, this route is a good route for families who want to take a short walk around the town while learning about the association's work in conserving rare apples. Each panel is located in one of the five conservation orchards maintained by the Avalou Plab association.

A very varied route through wooded areas and green passages near the Stang Alar valley, the Costour valley and its old flooded quarry. Detours, "surprise" shortcuts and exploration of little-frequented areas with passages through a few meadows, along fields and through undergrowth.

Detours via the Botanical Conservatory Garden and the Vallon du Stang-Alar, and the discreet southern part of the old town of Saint-Marc. A shady and very green environment that contrasts with Brest's reputation as a concrete city.

The bed of the Penfeld, Brest’s iconic river, was long used by the navy to store tree trunks between piles for use by shipwrights. Since the 1980s, this part of the river and its banks bordering the western edge of the Bellevue district have been transformed into a park open to the public, featuring a navigable stretch of water for kayaks. These banks offer an easy and pleasant route, mostly in the shade.

Let's explore the Brest Arsenal, deeply entrenched around the Penfeld, the ramparts hidden in the woods, and several viewpoints over the city and the harbour. The saying goes that Brest was completely destroyed during the Second World War... This is not true: "only" 80% of it was destroyed. This route explores some of the remaining 20% (towers, gates, ramparts, a few old streets and houses).

A very varied route with coastal paths, urban cliffs, gardens and shady woods, urban shortcuts and alleyways. Passages along the Corniche, along the Anse de Kerhuon, a discreet street overlooking Le Relecq and La Rade, Notre Dame du Relecq in the centre, return via the Relecq-Kerhuon greenway along the Domaine de Lossulien (private) then through the alleyways.

How to combine a visit to Brest with a beautiful walk: this walk takes you through the city centre neighbourhoods, the main streets, monuments and churches, the train station and the town hall. Start in the Recouvrance neighbourhood, then take Rue Vauban towards the Plateau des Capucins. Cross the Plateau des Capucins. Join and follow the Pont de l'Harteloire. Head towards Place Albert 1er, where you turn towards Saint-Martin. Join Rue de Richelieu to cross the Pont du Forestou bridge. Head towards Chemin du Merle Blanc before reaching the train station, then Brest Town Hall and walk up Rue Jean Jaurès to return to Saint-Louis Church. Cross Rue de Siam to reach Cours Dajot before reaching the Maritime Prefecture, Pont de Recouvrance and then the Tanguy Tower. Pass La Porte Jean Bart, then the Maison de la Fontaine before passing through the Jardin des Explorateurs to complete the loop.

A route offering varied landscapes: woodland and rocky outcrops, including the Rocher de l'Impératrice, and the banks of the Élorn, a coastal river which flows into Brest harbour, passing under the old Albert Louppe Bridge (or Plougastel Bridge) and the more recent Iroise Bridge. Two small chapels add a touch of heritage.

A hike along the famous GR®34 coastal path between the bridge over the Aber Benoit, in the commune of Tréglonou, and Portsall, in the commune of Ploudalmézeau. There are magnificent landscapes throughout the route, enhanced by the presence of numerous birds. Along the way, there are opportunities for culinary stops.

An easy, flat walk around the three lakes in Saint-Renan. There is also a slight detour through the medieval town centre of Saint-Renan. These lakes are artificial. Previously, there were tin quarries here. In the 1960s, these were gradually converted into lakes. Lake Ty Colo is home to water sports activities such as a wakeboarding centre. The town of Saint-Renan is an important medieval town. The town centre still bears traces of this.

A Yellow signposted coastal walk with beautiful panoramas of the Brest harbour (Rade de Brest). ⚠️: Some paths are very wet when it rains or covered by the sea during high tides.

See the mountains plunge into the sea. As you walk along the two largest Breton abers, you will appreciate the different landscapes that each turn offers. This two-day route can be done in either direction, and you will notice that the landscapes are completely different. Mainly on theGR®34, the route is simple and well marked.

The village of Ploudaniel, a rural commune in northern Finistère, can be spotted from afar by its slender bell tower with three galleries. This short route takes you around the village, highlighting its heritage and green surroundings.

A truly exceptional route along the banks of the Aber Wrac'h, surrounded by herons and egrets. Granite boulders rise out of the ground and oak trees cling to the small cliffs of brownish-yellow silt. Be careful, this scenery has to be earned as the bank is very muddy and slippery. Be sure to wear waterproof shoes or boots and bring walking sticks to avoid slipping. Check the tide times carefully and plan to set off two hours before high tide. As a guide, it took us 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach the Devil's Bridge.

The Saint-Samson Chapel is said to be one of the most photographed in Brittany. Perched above the waves, it marks the boundary between the English Channel and the open sea. From Saint-Pabu, you reach it via small country roads criss-crossing the Léonard plateau, via Lampaul-Ploudalmézeau and Ploudalmézeau. You pass Portsall Cove twice before heading back along the coastal paths that follow the coastline as closely as possible, until you return to Aber Benoit. Fresh air and crystal-clear waters guaranteed.

As well as its much-loved seaside, Locmaria-Plouzané boasts a countryside rich in heritage: manor houses and various wayside crosses lining the small roads and paths. Let’s not forget the Chapel of Saint Sebastian, whose history is linked to the plague epidemic that ravaged the parish in 1640.

After travelling through the countryside on hilly, shaded roads, full of flowers in spring, enjoying beautiful views of the sea and the Crozon peninsula, you will descend to the wild, authentic coastal path...

This route takes you around the Roscanvel Peninsula to explore military structures (forts, barracks and batteries) dating from the 17th century to the Second World War, whilst offering superb views of Brest Harbour from the cliffs ofthe GR®®34.

This walk, starting from Roscanvel church, goes around the Pointe des Espagnols, which is the northern tip of the Crozon peninsula, offering breathtaking views of Brest harbour. It then follows the coastal path to the Fort des Capucins, before returning to the village via the inland route.

From the Pointe du Petit Minou, the coastal path along the top of the cliff overlooks the rocky coastline, dotted with a few sandy coves. Further on, towards Anse de Bertheaume, several small beaches are popular with bathers in the summer months. Along this stretch of coast, a few remains of the Brest strait defences serve as a reminder of the strategic importance of this area. The return journey, via small country roads and paths, will take us to the site of Lesconvel, a beautiful ruin.

This circuit combines exploration of the hinterland, passing through Lesconvel, which consists of a manor house, a small ruined chapel, a small house with a bread oven, and a pond (a former fish pond). The return journey follows theGR®34coastal path, which passes through the imposing batteries, remnants of the Second World War, which were used to control the entrance to the Brest channel, and ends opposite the Pointe du Petit Minou and its lighthouse.

At the entrance to Aber Benoît, this route takes us to the dunes of Sainte-Marguerite in the commune of Landéda. The dunes offer a magnificent setting, which surfers have understood. The depth of the Broennou cove allows for a contrast of colours between the water and the sky, weather permitting.

A lovely, easy circular loop with varied views of the Brest harbour.

Walk along the GR®34 along the coast between Aber Wrac’h and the bridge over Aber Benoît. There are magnificent landscapes all along the route, enhanced by the presence of numerous birds. Along the way, there are opportunities for culinary stops.

Short walk along the coastal path from Pointe du Château to Logonna-Daoulas, starting from the car park in the village of Gorrequer.

Walk along the top of the cliffs facing the open sea. In centuries past, fortifications were built here to protect the Bay of Brest. The path crosses the moor. The return journey is inland.

A fairly short loop around the Sainte-Marguerite peninsula, following theGR®34along the coast and ending on land. A very beautiful seaside walk with no major difficulties, just a few steep slopes, particularly near the dunes of Sainte-Marguerite Beach.

Discover the bottom of Brest harbour via the Logonna-Daoulas coastal path. Please note: the coastal path between points (6) and (7) has collapsed (May 2025), so you will need to walk along the beach at low tide.
