Departure from the Spadiumparc car park.
(S/E) Exit the car park to the north at the corner of the building. Cross the pedestrian crossing and take the tunnel opposite (covered in street art) that passes under the boulevard and the railway line. Exit the tunnel, which bends to the left, and follow the winding footpath until you reach Rue de la Gare in a bend.
(1) Follow the street and a green fence until you reach a small wooden gate and a bilingual sign saying "Vallée du Costour" on the right: take the path. Then, immediately after, turn left to go uphill: you will come out onto a path overlooking the Rade de Brest.
Continue straight ahead on the small Rue des Alouettes until you reach the junction with Rue du Rody: opposite, slightly to the left, take the footpath. At the end of the path, turn left onto Rue de Mesgalon. 100 metres further on, in the bend, leave the street and continue straight ahead along a narrow path (between the house and the field).
(2) After 100 metres along the path, turn right onto a sunken lane that descends under the trees and leads to a small valley with a house higher up on the right.
(3) At the end of the path, turn right and walk up towards the house. Do not enter the private property, but just at the entrance (two stone posts), turn left onto a narrow path bordered by a green fence that allows you to pass behind the house.
After 100 metres of climbing, still under the trees, take another small path on the left (which is not on the maps). It turns almost halfway around a tree.
Then, after 50 to 60 metres, there is a dirt path on the right over the embankment covered with vegetation, and you can see a clearing in the distance beyond the undergrowth; this is a meadow. Climb the embankment and reach the meadow through the undergrowth (a path winds through it). Do not enter the private property to the right of the meadow.
At the top of the meadow, take a farm track to the left (north-west) and follow it. The farm track leads to a road (Rue des Hirondelles). Turn left and continue to a roundabout near a very large pylon or radio antenna. Turn left onto Rue du Rody.
Take the first right, marked as a dead end with a sign for "La Prairie Kermeur". It quickly turns into an unpaved road.
(4) Follow the unpaved road for about 300 metres, then turn right onto a narrow path lined with hedges: you will re-enter the Costour Valley.
Follow the paths down to the bottom of the valley (there are several paths and detours possible; for example, keep to the left at the junctions) until you reach an old road closed to traffic, which crosses the valley not far from the stream.
(5) Continue along this old road to the left, passing close to a lake that is a former flooded quarry (access is prohibited for safety reasons, although it is possible to find gaps in the fencing). Follow the road for about 1 km until you reach a barrier marking the exit from the Costour Valley.
(6) At the exit barrier, turn right in front of the white gate of a house garden to return to a path. Follow this path to the left for 100 metres, then turn right after 100 metres uphill. Continue along the paths under the woods and turn left at each fork for about 800 metres.
(7) You will eventually come to a small tarmac road next to a few houses: Rue Goarem Vors. After barely 50 metres of tarmac road, turn right onto a path opposite a small blue sign marked "322 and 324".
The farm track leads to a field 100 metres away: turn right and walk downhill alongside the trees. Cross this first field until you reach a large gap in the hedge. You will arrive at a second field. Turn left and walk alongside the trees until you reach the end.
At the end of the meadow, at the edge of the undergrowth, cross straight ahead (no path) to reach the edge of a cultivated field (do not cross the crop). Turn right and follow a strip of tall grass along the field (beware of possible nettles depending on the season), descend to the bottom corner of the field.
(8) At the corner of the field, exit by crossing almost straight through the edge of the woods, through a gap that is only visible at the last moment, and you will come to a path less than 5 metres away. Take this path on the left. It leads to a farm track, which you should also follow. Ignore a path on the right after 200 or 300 metres, then 100 metres further on, take a second path on the right, lined with hedges.
Follow the path until you cross a residential area and a pedestrian crossing (Rue Martin Luther King). Cross and continue straight ahead on the path, then after about 100 metres turn right onto a path that leads to Rue Germaine Tillion. Follow the street straight ahead, then after a right-hand bend, take a path on the left between two houses.
This leads to a park, which you must cross: turn left to cross the park until you reach the exit at the opposite diagonal corner, below.
(9) At the park exit, make a sharp right turn and enter the woods via a wide path. Continue along the path (ignore the gate to a private property on the right) until you reach a crossroads, where you should turn left. Continue along the path until you reach the exit of the Vallée du Costour, marked by a barrier.
Continue straight on along the pretty Rue du Costour until you reach the first right: a small, narrow, steep tarmac path that descends and re-enters the valley. Cross the footbridge over the stream, then take the path on the left and continue until you exit via the very first entrance at the start of the walk, Rue de la Gare.
(1) Turn left, follow the street and go back along the path (which will have a fork on the left), then through the tunnel until you reach the starting point (S/E).
