From Rorschach (Lake Constance) to Lucerne via the Alpenpanorama Weg

This 10-stage Alpine panorama trail takes you from Rorschach on the shores of Lake Constance to Lucerne. The trail crosses numerous mountain pastures and offers a few small peaks with beautiful views of the Alps and lakes. You will visit Appenzell, world-famous for its cheese. You will enjoy the Säntis, the highest point of the Alpstein massif. You will meet many pilgrims in Einsiedeln. You will enjoy walks along the lakes of Zug and Lucerne.

Notes

This route is the first section of the Alpine Panorama Trail, which links Lake Constance (Rorschach) to Lake Geneva (Vevey).

  • Red-white or yellow markings: Alpine Panorama Trail, Signpost No. 3. Excellent signposting, with numerous signposts along the entire route.
  • Mountain gear, including good walking boots, warm clothing and sun protection.
  • There are a few drinking fountains along the route, but the water is not always safe to drink.
  • Transport: Timetables
  • Weather: before setting off, check the Swiss Weather Service or Météo Blue
  • Alpine pastures: You’ll be crossing numerous alpine pastures; farmers are very accommodating towards walkers. Please stay on the paths that cross their land. Don’t forget to close any gates behind you.
  • Please note that Switzerland is not part of the EU. Mobile data charges are prohibitively high. It’s best to download offline maps via Wi-Fi before each stage.
  • In eastern and central Switzerland, very few people speak French. A basic knowledge of German or English is recommended. The local greeting is ‘grüezi’.
