Stein (SG) - Amden via the Alpenpanorama Weg

This stage will take you from Stein to Amden. You will walk alongside the Dürrenbach, a torrent with numerous waterfalls, for a long time. At Vordere Höhi, you will enjoy a superb view of the Glarus Alps. You will pass at the foot of the Mattstock as you descend to Amden. As you approach this village, you can also admire the Walensee.

(S) From the Ochsen hotel, head south until you reach the first road on the right. Sign W.

(1) Take Stigenstrasse to Geissboden. Sign No. 3.

(2) Turn left onto Geissboden Weg and quickly reach the Dürrenbach stream. Do not cross the bridge; stay on the left bank. Follow this tamed stream with its countless waterfalls for a long time. Gradually move away from it and arrive at an intersection. Sign No. 3.

(3) Continue climbing up the Schärswald valley, crossing a marshy area until you reach Schönebode. Signpost No. 3.

(4) Follow the directions on signpost No. 3 and you will soon reach the Vorderhöhi mountain pasture. Signpost No. 3. Head south-west and descend along a small road to the start of a ski lift.

(5) Leave the road and turn right onto a balcony path to Hütlisbode. The trail then heads north, continue towards Furgglen until you reach a junction. Signpost No. 3.

(6) Ignore the path on the left and continue north until you reach another intersection. Signpost No. 3.

(7) Follow this pleasant path facing the Masttstogg until you reach a crossroads at Hinder Höhi. Signpost No. 3.

(8) Quickly return to the road that descends to Strichboden. Sign No. 3.

(9) At the crossroads in Strichboden, continue straight ahead and go to the Niederschlag mountain station (chairlift down to Amden). Sign No. 3.

(10) Pass the ski lift ticket office. From signpost No. 3, begin the descent towards Amden, alternating between grassy slopes and small road crossings. Follow the signs and you will arrive at Durschlegistrasse in Amden. Signpost No. 3.

(11) After a lovely view of Lake Walen, you will quickly reach Dorfstrasse. Signpost No. 3.

(12) Head east, go up Dorfstrasse until you reach the Hotel Sonne. (E)
