Siebnen - Einsiedeln via the Alpenpanorama Weg

This stage will take you from Siebnen to Einsiedeln. After the long climb up the Stöcklichrüz, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view of Lake Zurich and the Sihlsee. At the Etzelpass, you will pass the St. Meinradskapelle chapel and the birthplace of Paracelsus. In Einsiedeln, a major pilgrimage site in Switzerland, don't miss a visit to the monastery.

Description of the walk

For ease of description, the following symbols are used

(S) From the Schäfli hotel, head west on Glarnerstrasse. Cross the bridge over the Wägitaler Aa river and continue for about 100 metres on Staldenstrasse until you reach a junction with Spreitenbach.

(1) On the right-hand side of Staldenstrasse, at sign No. 3, take the small passageway that winds between the houses and leads to Kreuzstatt on Kreuzenstattstrasse. Follow the W sign.

(2) Continue along Kreuzstaatstrasse until you reach the junction with Mosenstrasse. Signpost No. 3.

(3) Cross Mosenstrasse and take Obergasse directly opposite. Turn left at the pretty chapel (Kapellhof). Continue almost straight ahead until you reach a bridge over the Spreitenbach. Signpost No. 3.

(4) Continue along Allmeindstrasse and rejoin Mülistrasse, passing a restaurant. Stay on this road for about 400 metres until you see sign No. 3 and a path leading off to the right.

(5) Begin a climb that becomes steeper as you approach a small road. Sign W.

(6) At the sign, turn right onto Litschstrasse, then leave it at the first bend where a sign No. 3 indicates a shortcut to cut across this road. At the junction of Litschstrasse and Vorderbergstrasse, look for another clearly visible sign No. 3.

(7) Follow the various signs and keep climbing until you reach a restaurant in Bräggerhof, then a farm on the right. Sign No. 3.

(8) Follow the sign, going around the farm on the right. Continue climbing this ridge until you reach an intersection. Sign No. 3.

(9) At the intersection, take the path on the right, pass the Diebishüttli mountain pasture and continue towards the first cross, which is getting closer and closer. Sign No. 3.

(10) Enjoy the view of Lake Zurich and Obersee. Quickly reach the summit of Stöcklichrüz, then a second cross as you descend towards the west. Signpost No. 3.

(11) Now enjoy the view of Lake Sihl. Begin the descent to Müligassegg and easily reach Eggli, which offers a magnificent view of Lake Zurich. Signpost No. 3.

(12) At the sign, take the path down to the Körnlisegg restaurant, then turn north, crossing Chörnliseggstrasse. Follow the numerous signs to reach the Etzelpass via Saint-Meinradskapelle and Gasthaus Saint-Meinrad. Sign No. 3.

(13) Take the Etzel road, marked with signpost No. 3, to easily return to the Teufelbrücke, a superb covered bridge over the Sihl. Signpost No. 3.

(14) Cross the Sihl and stay on the Etzel road until you reach a junction with a path on the right, level with a farm. Signpost No. 3.

(15) Turn right onto the path that joins a road at Hinterhorben. Turn left and follow Hinterhorbenstrasse to Galgenchappeli. Sign No. 3.

(16) At this crossroads with a view of the Sihlsee, leave the road that descends directly to the lake. Take the road on the right towards Einsiedeln. Continue towards the town until you reach a crossroads. Sign No. 3.

(17) Take the underpass and gradually enter Einsiedeln via the long Etzlstrasse with the imposing abbey in sight.

(18) On Haupstrasse, after passing a small park, go to the Hotel Drei König. (E).
