Description of the walk

To make the description clearer, the following symbols are used:
R sign: Yellow sign with a hiker pictogram
Sign W: Sign or diamond shape with the word ‘Wanderweg’
Sign No. 3: Yellow multi-directional signpost with a green No. 3 sticker

(S) From the Hauptstrasse (Hotel Mozart), head towards Rorschach Harbour (Hafen). Sign No. 3

(1) Heading east, walk along Lake Constance via the lovely lakeside promenade until you reach Rorschach Main Station.

(2) Take the underpass at the station and emerge on the opposite side. Follow the directions on Sign No. 3. Walk up Promenadestrasse, then take Seebleichestrasse, crossing it carefully at the junction on the left. Sign No. 3.

(3) Turn right into Klostergetstrasse, and after about 80 metres, turn left onto Wiggensweg to reach Thalerstrasse.

(4) Turn left onto Thalerstrasse and cross it. About a hundred metres further on, you’ll see Sign No. 3 again. Turn right onto Lincolnstrasse, which is circular and curves round under the motorway. At the end of the bend, take the shortcut and return to Lincolnstrasse. Follow the various signs to reach the Château Hotel (Schloss Wartensee).

(5) On the right, take a small path (Krenneweg). It leads onto a tarmac track and joins the road at Wienacht-Tobel near a bridge.

(6) Cross the bridge over the railway line and follow the signs for Heiden. Continue to Schwendi, crossing the railway line. After Schwendi, this time go under the railway line and, after two bends, you’ll reach a Y-junction.

(7) Take the small road on the right towards Heiden via Matten. You will reach the entrance to the village of Heiden.

(8) Head south as far as the Hotel Linde, turn right into Poststrasse, then continue along Freihofstrasse. Turn into Werdstrasse. Pass the hospital, then turn right into Brunnenstrasse. Leave the hamlet of Brunnen and you’ll come to a flight of steps.

(9) Climb the steps, then continue along a path which joins a small road at Oberbrunnen. Turn right and head back towards Schwantelen Farm. Walk round the farm and begin a fairly steep climb along a path on the edge of the woods to reach a junction. Signpost No. 3.

(10) Keeping westwards, gradually enter a wooded area until you reach the Naturfreundehaus Kaien. Walk past this hostel and you’ll come across another Sign No. 3.

(11) You’ll soon reach the Kaienspitz (the highest point of the day). Begin the descent towards the village of Rehetobel, following the signposts.

(12) In Rehetobel, turn left then right, passing the Post Hotel and then the imposing church. Leave the village via Holderenstrasse and, at a bend, take the path towards Wisli Farm. For about 80 metres, the path curves in an arc and descends towards a small bridge over a stream. This section is barely passable, as it has been heavily trampled by cows. Descend carefully to the small bridge.

(13) Walk towards Chastenloch, passing through the mountain pastures of Oberen Cholenrüti and Lobenschwendi. Signpost R.

(14) Turn south and you will soon reach the Chastenloch Restaurant. Sign No. 3.

(15) Cross the first bridge over the Goldach stream. Leave Path No. 3, which leads to Trogen. Take the path towards Speicher, crossing the second bridge on the right. Head up towards a small road in Gern. Walk through the whole village of Speicher along the main street (Dorf) and emerge onto the Hauptstrasse at the Hotel Krone Speicher (E)
