Cham - Lucerne via the Alpenpanorama Weg

This stage will take you from Cham to Lucerne. The Michaelskreuz chapel offers a splendid view of Lake Lucerne. Gradually, as you walk along the Lucerne golf course, you will reach the shore of the Luzernersee. The magnificent lakeside promenade will take you to the old town near the famous Kappelbrücke.

(S) From the Bahnhof hotel, use the underpass to rejoin the Alpenpanorama Weg. Follow the railway line as far as Hünenberg Zythus station. Sign No. 3.

(1) Leave the railway line. Heading south along Dersbachstrasse, pass through the hamlets of Dersbach and Freundenberg. Continue to the church at Buonas. Sign No. 3.

(2) Turn south-west, cross Rischerstrasse with care, and arrive at a junction at Schmidhof. Signpost No. 3.

(3) Heading south, approach the railway line and the motorway, then cross over them, and begin a fairly steep climb up Dorfstrasse in the village of Meierskappel. At a cheese dairy, turn right towards the church. Signpost W.

(4) At the church, take Dietisbergstrasse, which, after a 90° bend, heads south-west. After a very steep climb, pass Dietisberg, turn right at the Oberstehof farm, and reach another farm at Obertal. Sign No. 3.

(5) Leave Dietisbergstrasse on your right, pass between the two buildings of the Obertal farm and begin the climb towards Michaelskreuz. Follow a lovely shaded path to reach the Untermichaelskerz farm. Sign No. 3.

(6) Pass to the right of the buildings along a small grassy path to rejoin the road to Untermischaelskreuz. On the left, admire the beautiful Michaelskreuz chapel, which sits atop a hillock. Make your way there, even though it is not part of the Alpenpanorama route.

(7) Enjoy the view over Lake Zug. Return to the road to Untermichaelskreuz, walk past the Michaelskreuz restaurant, turn right and come to a junction. Signpost No. 3.

(8) Walk past the houses at Michaelskreuz and take a small road round a small hill topped by an aerial. Follow a ridge down towards Schiffmannshof. Signpost No. 3.

(9) Follow the numerous Sign No. 3 to reach the entrance to the village of Udligenswil. Sign No. 3.

(10) Heading south, take Schössligasse and join Dorfstrasse. Signpost No. 3.

(11) Heading south-west, on leaving the village, join the Hintere Zweiermatt path. Following the signposts, descend into the valley to the Gotzental road. Signpost No. 3.

(12) Cross the Gotzental road with care and walk about 50 metres north-west along this road. Signpost No. 3. Turn left, head uphill towards Obersmösli, and reach a junction after a small shrine. Signpost No. 3.
(13) Leave the Dottenberg road on your right, turn left, and begin the descent to Adligenswil via Dallenbach. You will reach Dottenbergstrasse before it takes a circular route. Signpost W.

(14) Cut across the bend in Adligenswil, pass through two roundabouts; after the Rössli restaurant, turn right onto Dietschibergstrasse and continue to Vorder Dalacheri. Sign No. 3.

(15) Turn right at the farm, then leave the road after about a hundred metres. Take the path on the left. Walk alongside the Lucerne golf course and emerge onto a small road near the St Anna Gerlisberg monastery.

(16) Continue down the hill, skimming past the bends in Gerlisbergstrasse. Cross the Bellerive road, follow the small road through Felsental and rejoin Bellerivestrasse at a level crossing. Sign R.

(17) Cross the railway line heading west, take the footpath that runs alongside Haldenstrasse, turn left past the tennis courts and you’ll find yourself at the shore of Lake Lucerne.

(18) Make the most of the magnificent lakeside walk to the Seebrücke. Sign No. 3.

(19) Admire the wooden bridge (Kapellbrücke) as you cross the Reuss via the Seebrücke to Lucerne railway station. (E).
