The Schwägalp - Stein (SG) via the Alpenpanorama Weg

For ease of description, the following symbols are used
R sign: Yellow sign with a hiker pictogram
W sign: Sign or diamond with the word Wanderweg
Sign No. 3: Yellow sign with green sticker No. 3.

(S) From the Säntis hotel, cross the car park and head for the Alpschaukäserei cheese dairy. Sign No. 3.

(1) Head south, follow the path and look for another sign No. 3.

(2) Continue across an alpine pasture, then some marshy ground to reach a small road. Sign No. 3.

(3) At the sign, turn left and follow this road for about 200 metres until you reach another sign No. 3.

(4) At a bend, leave the road and cross the mountain pastures of Dreckloch and Hinder Stelzenboden. Continue to Vorder Stelzenboden. Signpost W.

(5) Pass the farm and turn south. Follow this new mountain pasture, which ends at a hairpin bend. Take this road to the DunkelBoden farm. Signpost W.

(6) At the sign, take the path on the left. After about 80 metres, look for the start of another path on the right. Take this path, which crosses a mountain pasture and passes close to the road at Letz, before rejoining it a little further on at another farm. Then take the road to Lutertannen. Sign No. 3.

(7) At the Lutertannen crossroads, follow the signs for No. 3, turn south onto the Col de Risi road. There are numerous signs along this road, making it easy to reach the Backentolen farm. The road becomes a path until you reach the Risipass. Sign No. 3.

(8) From the pass, descend towards the Risi building. Sign No. 3.

(9) Heading south, begin the descent to Ahorn. Sign No. 3.

(10) Continue the descent towards Rueboden. Signpost No. 3.

(11) Follow the various signposts and continue through several mountain pastures with the village of Stein in sight. Join the road after passing Hütten. Signpost No. 3.

(12) Continue along this road for about 50 metres and take the obvious shortcut to cut off a long bend. Continue along this road until you reach a junction at the entrance to the village. Signpost No. 3.

(13) Continue downhill to the bridge over the Thur, then you will soon arrive at the Hotel Ochsen on Staatstrasse. (E)

• ? Alpine pastures: You will cross many alpine pastures, where farmers are very cooperative with hikers. Please respect the paths that pass through their properties. Don't forget to close gates behind you.
