Tenneville walks
Around the Basseille Stream
The Ruisseau de Basseille has its source in the Fagne de la Borne near the Saint-Hubert Aerodrome and flows into the western Ourthe near Ortheuville. This walk follows its course more or less closely for about 6 km.
Ardennes circular starting from Champlon
The hike takes you on a journey of discovery through the countryside and forests on the heights of the Deux Ourthes Natural Park. The balanced alternation between panoramic views and deciduous and coniferous forests provides all the ingredients for a beautiful and enjoyable outing in nature.
Passing through La Basseille
Set off to explore the River La Basseille, a tributary of the Ourthe which rises in Saint-Hubert. The river, whose banks form a Nature Reserve, flows exclusively through the Forest of Freyr for around 10 km.
Please note: there are two sections that are more difficult to follow; a GPX track is recommended.
Chapelle de la Bonne Dame and Cheslin Viewpoint
From the beautiful village of Lavacherie, set off to explore the Chapelle de la Bonne Dame and the Cheslin viewpoint. On your way back, pass by the Golet campsite and through the village streets, where magnificent houses built from local stone come into view.
Cheslin loop
This beautiful hike in Sainte-Ode takes you on a journey of discovery through the valleys of the Ourthe, Baseille and Laval streams, alternating between forest and pretty panoramic views of this region of the Ardennes, with a return trip through the Orti Nature Reserve.
A circular nature-filled loop starting from Cens
Here is a circular walking route within the Two Ourthes Nature Park, offering a lovely mix of countryside and woodland (alternating between coniferous and deciduous trees) with magnificent views of the Ardennes hills between La Roche-en-Ardenne and the Pays de Bastogne. The section along the River Ourthe is wonderfully wild, and progress is slower here than on the wide country lanes to the north of the route. It is likely that this route would be impassable without getting your feet wet in the event of heavy flooding.
Circular Ardennes loop south of La Roche-en-Ardenne
This circular route goes around a few villages south of La Roche-en-Ardenne, encroaching slightly on the territory of Tenneville.Although mainly forested, the route offers some beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and hills.
The Art Trail of the Orti Nature Reserve
The walk begins in an orchard with heritage fruit varieties and an apiary, before following a sunken path that descends to the bottom of the Laval Valley. Beavers, ponds, artistic installations... so many discoveries await you.
In the Laval and Western Ourthe valleys
A few sculptures, a bit of a nature reserve with the occasional sign of beavers here and there, and a bit of countryside: that’s what this walk has to offer.
Circular in the Heart of the Ardennes starting from La Roche
Starting from the Ronchamps pond, the walk begins by winding through the countryside before heading into the forest.Make sure you’re wearing suitable footwear, as the route follows a stream along a path overgrown with tall grass at the start and flooded with water towards the end. This valley is magnificent and wonderfully wild! The first climb of the route leads out into the countryside with a lovely view to the north over the hills of the Ourthe Valley.A short detour (off the route) to the centre of Beausaint allows you to admire its castle. From Beausaint to Vecmont, it’s (almost) straight ahead and through the countryside. There’s a small chapel and a picnic table between Ronchampay and Vecmont.Shortly after Vecmont, there is (unfortunately) a short kilometre of minor road before entering the woods, which the route leaves only briefly to cross the N89 again and finally return to the starting point.
Circular route within the future Nassonia National Park starting from Sapin Fî
This circular walk follows the wide forest tracks through part of the future Nassonia National Park and the Deux-Ourthes Nature Park.Starting from the Sapin Fî car park, the walk first heads towards the Rouge Poncé birch forest and its boardwalks, then towards the Wallonia Log Park before branching off towards Mochamps, the Fagnes de Priesse observation tower and the Croix des Russes. After a long descent into the Rabani valley, the walk crosses the Masblette, the iconic river of Fourneau-Saint-Michel, via a small footbridge following the destruction of the two-arched stone bridge during the floods of summer 2021.On the return journey, the route climbs slowly but surely, following the Palogne stream back up to Sapin Fî.
Circuit in the Saint-Hubert forest starting from Fourneau Saint-Michel
This is a very easy route through one of Belgium's largest deciduous forests, on comfortable gravel paths and a little tarmac, but very secluded, completely away from 'civilisation'. It passes by the Étang de Bilaude bird observatory, which is superb in its moorland setting. In several places, beautiful benches carved from tree trunks invite you to rest and contemplate.
Around the hamlet of Beauplateau
Starting from the hamlet of Beauplateau and the former convent built in 1880, set off to discover the Chapel of Notre-Dame de Lorette via covered and uncovered trails, roads and dirt tracks.
From Nassogne to Masbourg and Ambly
A pleasant hike through the hills and valleys of the Nassogne countryside and woods. It first takes you to the Chapel and Calvary of St-Léonard before descending towards the Masblette stream and the village of Masbourg. This is followed by a very steep climb up a very stony path on the agricultural plateau between Masbourg and Ambly. You may need a machete to approach Ambly, but the view on arrival is magnificent. The return to Nassogne is still a bit of a challenge for your calves, but you won't need a machete: the path is a little wider and properly cleared.
Walk to the sources of the Hédrée from Lignières
The Hédrée river forms in the marshy area of the forest on the outskirts of Marche-en-Famenne between the villages of Gênes (Rendeux) and Bande (Nassogne). The route crosses this rushing stream at the ford on the path shortly after kilometre 2 and then follows one of its tributaries, whose bed runs alongside the path for just under the next kilometre. This is not the only wet spot on the walk: you often have to take a path through the undergrowth instead of the road until you reach the junction with Rue des Fagnes at kilometre 4.4.After a well-deserved break, it's back to the same thing for about 2 kilometres after crossing the national road. The last 4 kilometres are much drier.A short stop on the bridge at the bottom of Grimbièmont allows you to see how much the waters of the Hédrée have swollen over the first few kilometres of its course. In autumn, the circular offers not only the beautiful colours of nature but also an incredible diversity of mushrooms.
On the way to the Fourneau Saint-Michel
Starting from Masbourg, the forest trails will take you halfway to the Fourneau Saint-Michel, an estate comprising the open-air museum of rural life in Wallonia and the Iron Museum, with a return trip through the heights of the Masblette valley.
Freux walk
This unpretentious walk allows you to wander around the villages of Freux and Bras, through pastures and along country roads. The walk starts in front of Freux church, where there is a large car park.
A large circular loop at Freux
Is the walk awful? Not at all! The route winds through the countryside and forests of north-eastern Libramont. And when the magic of winter appears, it can take many forms! Even when there is no snow! Frosty fog can adorn the vegetation with a magnificent display. Another completely different natural phenomenon is the formation of white filamentous ice on dead branches caused by a fungus that releases water which freezes in the form of silky filaments. In summer, the atmosphere is inevitably different... and so are the landscapes! You are unlikely to have the chance to observe a stray deer in the middle of the meadows near the ponds of Château de Freux for long.
Ardennes getaway in Hatrival
Hatrival seems to have adopted the crows as its emblem... why not!We didn’t spot any more or fewer than elsewhere, but it is indeed the town’s emblem that stands at the village entrance and adorns one or two of the local lodges. After skirting a huge stud farm, the walk heads into the forest for a few kilometres before reaching the hamlet of Pont de Libin and following the railway line.A long climb through the forest follows to reach the heights of the Carrière du Petit Bois. There’s a superb view of the quarry, but take care as the path running alongside it tends to crumble and the site’s safety fence is partially hanging over the drop! The walk then gradually leaves the forest to cross the N89 and reach the village of Bras-Haut and the surrounding countryside.Take care when crossing the N89 (see note in ‘Practical Information’ below), where the route joins the forest paths leading to the entrance to Hatrival.
Forest loop in the heart of the Ardennes via Samrée
Set off to discover the authentic Ardennes forest, far from the hustle and bustle of the tourist centre of La Roche-en-Ardenne. In mid-August, apart from a few people on the outskirts of Borzée, you may not meet any other hikers. Peace and quiet guaranteed.
From Cheslé to Hérou
A challenging walk in the Upper Ourthe region, along the wildest and most picturesque section of the valley. Discover an ancient Celtic fortress and the Hérou panorama, rated 2 stars by Michelin.
Circular towards the Freux ponds
Several series of ponds strung together like a string of pearls stretch between Freux, Bougnimont and Séviscourt. The hike takes you to those near the magnificent Freux-Suzerain castle. The others are even more hidden away at the bottom of vast private estates. For the rest, this hike is rather rural on the north side and very wooded on the south side. The end of the wooded section crosses the pretty marshy area of Golo.
The Hermitage of St-Thibaut
The hike starts at the end of Rue du Belvédère and crosses the woods to reach the village of Hodister. It then heads towards the site of St-Thibaut. Be sure to admire the view halfway along the route before returning to the starting point.
Broom walk from Waharday
The deforested hillsides in the Waharday, Chéoux and Hodister area have been repopulated with various species of shrubs, notably broom, which has taken root there in their thousands. When they flower in May, they light up the whole area with their characteristic magnificent yellow colour. The icing on the cake is that the numerous meadows are also illuminated in yellow by buttercups.A real feast for the eyes.
Around Rendeux
Start at Robert Lenoir Park in Rendeux and head towards Bois d'Arlogne. Once there, the hike passes through Marcouray. Then, from the village, head towards Cielle and descend towards La Boverie to finally follow the Ourthe to Rendeux via Jupille and Marcourt. A beautiful circular route to discover the villages of our municipality!
In search of a lost cross in Rendeux
We went in search of the Croix Monseur-Kinet located near the Chapelle Saint-Thibaut. We didn't find it! But we found others. A mainly forestroute offering panoramic views of the Ourthe valley and its tributaries here and there.
Geological trail in the Fond des Vaulx nature reserve
The Fond des Vaulx is part of the Famenne-Ardenne Geopark, the first UNESCO Global Geopark in Belgium.
A stone's throw from the town centre, this small, steep-sided valley offers a landscape that contrasts with the expanse of the Marche plain. It is home to several caves, chantoirs and holes, including the Trotti-aux-Fosses chasm, which is unique in Belgium and remarkable for its collapse chasm morphology.
