The Viaur rises at the foot of the Puech du Pal, at an altitude of 1,090 m. It is joined by numerous streams such as the Céor, the Vioulou and the Bage. It forms the boundary between the territories of the Palanges and the Lévézou Massif, as well as between the departments of Aveyron and Tarn, to the west of the department.
