Description of the walk

Start from Lassouts in front of the restaurant “Le relais de Lassouts”, situated on the D6, at a right-angle bend in the heart of the village.

(S/E) Leave the D6 at the restaurant and take the small road eastwards towards Les Gabres.

(1) At the three-way junction in the hamlet of Les Gabres, continue along the road to the right. Cross the small stream “Le Neyrou” and carry on to the next junction.

(2) Turn left towards Mas Soubeyrou. After passing through the hamlet, ignore the road on the right and continue past the hamlet of Lurac. Staying on the road, head towards Cros d’Olt.

(3) On leaving the hamlet, take the wide track that descends to the Malrieu ravine.

(4) Take a hairpin bend to the left just before the stream. Then follow the meandering course of the River Lot.
Walk round the headland to reach the Castelnau-Lassout dam.

(5) Optional (marked on the map): cross the river via the dam, continue along the road and, at the Fork in the road (elevation 425), turn right towards the spillway.

Retrace your steps, crossing the dam once more.

(5) Continue along the road which climbs towards La Cité (a former village for EDF employees).

(6) Continue your ascent along this small road until you reach the D6 (Saint-Côme-d’Olt / Lassouts).

(7) Carefully follow the D6 to the left. Stay on this road, ignore a small road on the right and enter Lassouts. Go straight on until you reach the starting point (S/E).

Mainly road cycling. The only interesting part is along the Lot river and near the dam. The sign for the detour around the spillway is inaccurate, as it is actually 1.8 km there and back on the road. The end of the ride to Lassouts is along a very busy road, which is too dangerous!

A lovely walk with stunning scenery – the village of Mandailles above the dam! Well worth a visit.
