The route starts opposite the school and war memorial, in the village square where you can park.
(S/E) Turn left at the monument and, 50 metres further on, take the lane on the left, which quickly turns into a farm track. Continue for 300 metres.
(1) The path splits into a Y: take the left fork on the slightly uphill track. This is to warm up!
(2) After 300 metres, when the path levels out again, take a small path lined with tall hedges on your left. It will climb, gently at first, then more and more steeply, to take you to the heart of the Palanges forest.
Continue to follow the main track, which climbs steeply. After a steep section, the path levels out, then, on your left, climbs steeply again to reach an aluminium barrier at the entrance to a field.
(3) You can cross this property. However, if you have a dog, keep it on a leash, as there are sometimes animals here... don't provoke them. On the other side of the field, there is a barbed wire fence. Crawl under it if you are afraid you won't be able to close it, but above all, don't leave it open if it was closed.
(4) Take the path on the right and climb towards the forest. Stay on the main track, which crosses a field with a remarkable view of the Aveyron valley and the high plateaus of Aubrac to the north and Lévézou to the south (you are already on the Lévézou plateau). Walk along the left side of a fir forest at the highest point of the hike, at an altitude of 900 metres.
As soon as the track descends and you reach the corner of the fir tree plot, turn left across the field (there are often car tracks) to reach the forest. At the entrance to the fir forest, on your left, you will see a pointed rock (known in Occitan as Roc Ponchu).
(5) Follow this track, passing a track on your left, then another on your right. Now descend steeply, taking the first path on your right which descends sharply to the D28 road.
(6) Turn left for about 50 metres, then leave the road and take the path on the right. After 200 metres, you will come back to the road. Follow it to the right for 50 metres, then take the path on the right opposite the communal water reservoir.
Arrive in the village on Rue du Lavoir and turn left to return to the starting point (S/E).
