The Chemin des Raspes
A beautiful hike starting from Ayssènes in the little-known Tarn region, culminating at the Notre-Dame-du-Désert chapel. Beautiful panoramic views of the Gorges du Tarn and the Lévézou hills.
Despite numerous shaded sections, avoid doing this hike in the heat of the day or in wet weather due to the significant elevation gain.
Les Raspes du Tarn
This route alternates between climbs (sometimes steep...), descents (just as steep...!), narrow paths and tracks, and a bit of road too.
You pass through steep-sided valleys and very pretty hilltop villages, and most of the time you walk along a balcony-like path above the Tarn, a river with emerald-green waters (well, almost...).
From the dam to the Tower in Villefranche-de-Panat
A contrasting walk, between panoramic views from a historic hilltop site and the shores of Lake Villefranche, with its footpath passing through the green landscapes typical of the Lévézou.
Moderator's note problem with the passage between (9) and (10), see the notice dated 14/07/2022, and the description between (8) and (9).
Climb up to Caylus Rock and discover the Sorgue Valley
In fine weather, the views from Caylus Rock are superb. The walk ends with a tour of the town centre.
Around Saint-Georges-de-Luzençon
Starting from Saint-Georges-de-Luzençon, a two-part hike. The first section follows the Cernon and climbs up to Luzençon (beautiful view). The second climbs eastwards via the church to the Cathedral.
The Château de Saint-Izaire trail
In the heart of the Rougier de Camarès and crossed by the Dourdou, the medieval village of Saint-Izaire welcomes us with its imposing suspension bridge, its red sandstone church and its 14th-century castle (former residence of the bishops of Vabres l'Abbaye). You will be charmed by this delightful village, where the sun gives the red stone facades a flamboyant appearance.
On the paths of the women of the earth, starting from Viala du Dourdou.
In the heart of the Rougier, the village of Viala du Dourdou, in a dominant position, offers easy hiking and surprising views in the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park.
The ladder trail around Roquefort-sur-Soulzon
This walk offers an original perspective on the Roquefort region from above, between Lévézou, the Tournemire cirque, an old sheepfold and the Larzac plateau. The final section passes close to the Roquefort caves and crosses the village's main street to return to the starting point.
The Peyrebrune Tower from Alrance
The Peyrebrune Tower is accessible on foot or by car from several villages. Pilgrimages take place regularly from these different starting points. Here, the departure point is from the village of Alrance.
The Baraque du Cantonier in Salles-Curan
This hike starts along a shaded stream, climbs to the Lévézou plateaus with their unobstructed views, and ends in the woods.
Wind turbines at Les Escarits, starting from Salles-Curan
A pleasant walk alongside wind turbines on a shaded part of the route, offering varied landscapes.
La Vierge des Lacs starting from Salles-Curan
A short hike offering a superb view of Lake Pareloup, one of the largest artificial lakes in France.
Comberoumal Priory
This walk was created by the Pays de la Muse et des Raspes Tourist Office. A very pleasant walk, even in summer, as it is often in the shade. During the season, admire the splendid rosebushes in the streets of Saint-Beauzély.
Mont Seigne
The Haut Lévézou seen from the summit of Mont Seigne (1121m). You will have a 360° view of the Monts d'Aubrac, Mont Lozère, the Cévennes, the Causses, the Monts de l'Espinouse... To get there, take the district roads and dirt tracks used by farmers and foresters. At the summit, an orientation table will give you all the information you need on a 360° view.
