The Graouzou Aqueduct

At the start, the village of red sandstone offers a walk featuring medieval ruins and 19th-century buildings. The route is shaded by oak woods. The canal bridge halfway along the route now serves as a footbridge spanning the Graouzou.

Description of the walk

Car park near Saint-Rémy Church.

(S/E) Leave the car park on the left for a few metres and turn right to walk up the only street that runs through the village for 180 m.

(1) When you reach the stone cross under a large tree, turn right. This is a long cul-de-sac leading to a very steep downhill path.

(2) At the end of the track, take a path uphill to the right. When the path fades away, giving way to two fields, continue straight on along the edge of the field on the left. rejoin the farm track at the end of the field.

(3) After a short climb, turn left. The path winds along the ridge and, after 250 m, veers to the right. Descend through an oak grove to the level of Le Graouzou. The canal bridge spanning it comes into view after a 90-degree bend to the left. Continue right along the track for a return trip to the end of the aqueduct.

(4) Follow the track for 50 metres. Leave the track and turn left onto a path signposted ‘Rayssac via the graves’.

(5) The path winds uphill to the left.

(6) On the ridge, if you wish, take a return trip to the left to the Visigothic tombs. Return to the path until you reach the wide track.

(7) At the junction, turn right towards the hamlet of Saint-Louis. Join the road leading back to the village.
