(S/E) Rue de la Muraille – Opposite the Auberge du Viala
(1) From the northern end of the square, turn left. Walk past the library. Opposite, take a path lined with retaining walls. In Valencas, turn right and walk alongside the picnic area for 200 m. Turn slightly right and walk past a livestock building. Continue for 800 m until you reach a crossroads (“les quatres chemins”).
(2) Turn 90° to the left onto a farm track. At the first junction, keep left and head downhill to Ambias. In the hamlet, turn right between two old barns and head downhill to a hillside lake. After the pumping station, head uphill to a forest track. Follow it to the left towards a karstic cave. Follow this hillside path for 1.6 km to the Grès farm.
(3) Continue the climb to the right, towards Le Coudol. Reach the crossroads in the hamlet. Take a sheep track straight ahead for 400 metres, then turn 90° to the right and climb up to the Saint Etienne chapel. After the chapel, continue to your left. At the road, continue to the left for 150 metres, then turn right. Walk past the hamlet of Saint Joseph.
(4) When you reach the junction with the D152, carry on straight ahead along a level grassy track until you reach the D73. Turn right onto the D73 for 80 metres, then turn left onto the track. You’ll rejoin the D73. Follow it to the right towards the sports ground. Walk along the left-hand side of the sports ground; at the junction, take the path on the right to reach the ‘four-way’ crossroads. At the crossroads, turn left and walk for 150 metres.
(5) You will reach the village of Viala du Tarn; carry on straight ahead towards the cemetery and you will come out onto the D73 at the entrance to the village. (S/E)
