Park in the supermarket car park on Boulevard Ernest Cavalier.
(S/E) Exit the car park heading west and turn right onto Boulevard Basse Capelle. After about fifty metres, turn left into a zigzagging lane. Reach the banks of the Sorgues and turn right. Walk along the river on your left, pass under the old railway bridge and then head back up onto the quays. Cross Boulevard Victor Hugo, admire the Pont Vieux and head towards Notre-Dame church.
(1) Leave the church on your right and continue along Quai de l’Église. You’ll come out onto Boulevard Charles de Gaulle; follow it to the right for about 50 metres and turn left onto Rue du Général Castelnau. Further on, reach the banks of the Sorgues and follow the river until you come to a ramp on the left leading down to it.
(2) Turn right onto Rue de la Carrièrasse and head uphill. Cross Boulevard Beau Séjour on the left-hand side and turn left onto Chemin de Touloupy. Follow this path, which climbs steadily (yellow markings), and ignore the turn-offs to the left.
(3) At the end of the tarmac, at a fork, take the path on the right, still marked in yellow. Climb steadily through woodland to a clear viewpoint with a bench.
(4) Continue along the path which veers to the right (north). You will come to a tarmac road (elevation 590m) and follow it to the left. Stay on the road and, just before the Ferme de Touloupy, turn right onto a path that climbs towards pastures (leaving some sheds on the left). Open (and close) a gate and continue straight on until you reach a dolmen.
(5) Head north-east across the pasture along the ridge. You will soon come to the yellow-marked path; follow it to the left. At a fork, turn left.
(6) At the next fork, turn left again and head downhill. Cross the Ruisseau de Riviéral via a small ford and climb up the other side. Take a sharp right-hand bend, then emerge into farmland. The path becomes very poorly marked and climbs (north-north-east) along the left-hand side of a fairly steeply sloping field boundary.
(7) Shortly after reaching the ridge line, take a path on the right that runs alongside hedgerows and fields, slightly to the left of the ridge line. You will come to a fork.
(8) Turn sharply right to climb up to the Chapelle Saint-Martin de Boussac (a beautiful spot with lovely views, several tables and benches made of massive rock, dolmen-style).
(9) Retrace your steps back to the fork.
(8) Continue straight ahead. You’ll reach a tarmac road; follow it to the right. After about 50 metres, take thefirst path on the left.
(10) After about 150 m, leave the track and follow the edge of a field. Descend and then climb up towards a hill covered in heath. At the boundary between the field and the heath, look for a ‘walker’ signpost marking the start of a path. Follow these signposts as they zigzag their way to the Boussac dolmen.
(11) Retrace your steps back to the path.
(10) Follow the path to the left to continue on the main route. Walk for about 1.5 km, heading generally east. Just before reaching a good stony path, note the Dolmen des Faydunes (largely collapsed) on the right in a field.
(12) Continue straight ahead on the well-maintained stony path. Join a road and follow it to the left until you reach a crossroads.
(13) Turn left onto the path that descends gently through a beautiful boxwood grove. After about 500 m, look out for the Puech Ibilié Dolmen, which is also partly collapsed and somewhat hidden beneath the boxwoods.
(14) Retrace your steps back to the crossroads.
(13) Follow a tarmac road to the left. Stay on the road until you reach the beautiful Crassous Dolmen, situated on the right-hand side of the road.
(15) Continue to the hamlet of Crassous; ignore the first left-hand turn, and carry on until the second left, just before the last houses.
(16) Then turn left. After about 200 m, just before the last house, turn right onto a track. Pass under a high-voltage power line, join the D50 and follow it to the left.
(17) At the junction, follow the D250 to the right. After about 200 m, take a yellow-marked path on the right which runs more or less parallel to the road. Join the road further on, follow it to the right, pass the Croix de Baldassé at a crossroads and reach the Tiergues Dolmen.
(18) Then turn right onto the path that runs past the foot of the dolmen. The path soon gives way to a track that descends into a small valley. Pass under the high-voltage power line again and join a path.
(19) Follow the path to the right. Shortly afterwards, walk alongside a stream on your right. Head south-west, then due south.
(20) At a fork, keep heading due south on the left-hand branch (do not go down to cross the stream). Following the contour line, reach a crossroads of paths at an unnamed pass.
(21) Turn off opposite, heading south-south-west, and go round Puech Boussac on the left. You’ll reach the foot of Rocher Caylus, which was once dominated by a fortress of which only a few traces remain.
(22) Take a good path that goes round the rock to the right, and head downhill. At the junction, follow the road to the left as it descends, then soon turns right. Just before the end of the tarmac road leading to a house, a yellow-marked path branches off sharply to the left.
(23) Follow the path down towards the south-west. Join a road at a hairpin bend and follow it to the left (south-west) downhill.
(24) After about 200 m, at the foot of the Red Cross building, turn left onto Calade de Caylus. Walk downhill until you reach an avenue; take this to the right for about 100 metres until you reach a junction (with a car park on the right-hand side of the road). Turn left onto Rue du Pasteur Borel. At a junction (with roadside parking on the right), turn left onto Rue du Pasteur Borel, keeping the temple on your left. At the end, first turn left then right onto Rue Lamartine. Then turn right, just before the Vaxergues Agricultural College stadium. First turn right then left, then turn left again to return to the car park (S/E).
