Saint-Léons walks

Route modified from (10) to (11), March 2022.A pleasant circular route offering varied scenery, from woods and forests to the characteristic Causse landscape, following part ofthe GR®® de Pays ‘Grand Tour des Monts et Lacs du Lévézou’.

The Viaur rises at the foot of the Puech du Pal, at an altitude of 1,090 m. It is joined by numerous streams such as the Céor, the Vioulou and the Bage. It forms the boundary between the territories of the Palanges and the Lévézou Massif, as well as between the departments of Aveyron and Tarn, to the west of the department.

A lovely walk starting from Saint-Beauzély that takes you up to the heights of Lévezou, at the foot of the Bouloc wind turbines.

This walk was created by the Pays de la Muse et des Raspes Tourist Office. A very pleasant walk, even in summer, as it is often in the shade. During the season, admire the splendid rosebushes in the streets of Saint-Beauzély.

The Haut Lévézou seen from the summit of Mont Seigne (1121m). You will have a 360° view of the Monts d'Aubrac, Mont Lozère, the Cévennes, the Causses, the Monts de l'Espinouse... To get there, take the district roads and dirt tracks used by farmers and foresters. At the summit, an orientation table will give you all the information you need on a 360° view.

A short route around the Puech overlooking the pretty village of Vezins de Lévézou: Mont Caume. Not particularly difficult, with varied scenery.

A drive through the Gorges du Tarn, around the Puech de Luzergue. Explore the village of Compeyre, Cabrières Castle and Lugagnac Castle. Numerous viewpoints overlooking the Gorges du Tarn.

Visit the pretty medieval village of Compeyre and take a walk in the hills around Puech de Luzergue, passing by the châteaux of Cabrières and Lugagnac. The route is mainly on paths and small roads.Please note: it is best to do this hike at the weekend as the tracks may be used by vehicles and the quarry is very close by.

A Gothic church, a stone water tower and numerous views of the wooded mountains await you on this easy route.

Just a stone’s throw from a quarry and a railway line, the Barbade ravine and its stream immerse you in the heart of nature, with a cliff-top path and a ford. A cave shelter, a small aqueduct and magnificent views over the wooded hillsides punctuate this highly enjoyable route. Please note, however: take care on the cliff-top path and at the section with the rope. Quite challenging in places. Avoid this route in wet weather on the steep sections.

Accompanied by the sound of water flowing from the Novis fountain, this gentle climb to La Devèze offers a 360° panorama of the Grands Causses, the blue line of the Cévennes and the Languedoc mountains The drinking troughs of Novis, a village of character, and the vaulted fountain of Argeliès, where water flows as it did in the days of the washerwomen, are the two focal points of this family outing on the Causse de Sauveterre. On the crest of the Devèze de Novis, an orientation table guides you through the breathtaking parade of landscapes stretching as far as the eye can see

A beautiful climb up the Causse Noir starting from Pauhle, a pretty village where you must visit the Maison de la Cerise. A second short circular loop, if you have time, allows you to visit the lower parts of the commune but does not provide access to the Tarn, which is a shame.

A climb up the Causse Noir via the Ravin du Cambon, passing by the Caylus viewpoint, a short break to rest on the wide paths of the causse, then a long descent via the Ravin de Font Auzal.

Hike in the hills above the Tarn Valley, around the medieval castle of Peyrelade.

A family walk that takes you along the edge of the Causse plateau. Keep one eye on the Millau Viaduct and the other on the magnificent fortified farm of La Cadénède. You’ll cross a ‘bouissière’ and take a well-deserved rest by the stone-built fountain at Les Aumières Basses.

Who has never dreamed, like Icarus, of seeing the world from above... More prosaically, this walk will take us between the legs of the smallest pier of the viaduct. A quick glance at the chapel of Brocuéjouls, another at a double chamber dolmen, not to mention the exceptional panorama of the Tarn valley below. In short, a family-friendly route with a moderate elevation gain. Enjoy your walk.

Walk on the Courry plateau, overlooking Séverac le Chateau. Panoramic view of the upper Aveyron valley, the Olip valley and the foothills of Lévezou.

A circular loop to get back into shape, with a bit of an incline starting from the campsite.

A walk with therapeutic benefits. More seriously, a very straightforward walk with no particular difficulties. The walk follows paths that wind through Scots pine forests and then along wide, easy-to-walk forest tracks. Very little elevation gain; suitable for young children and people with reduced mobility.

A walk through varied landscapes that will take you in the footsteps of a Duke of Burgundy, who had lost his way in this area. A kind-hearted pilgrim set him back on the right path to Santiago de Compostela; having arrived safely, the duke had this chapel built in homage to the Virgin Mary, to whom he had prayed here a few weeks earlier.

Just a few minutes from Millau, this walk combines superb landscapes, the viaduct, the village of Peyre (listed as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France") and a bucolic little path along the Tarn.

A hike on the outskirts of Millau, comprising two distinct sections, both in terms of the natural environment and the level of difficulty. The first section takes you through the Causse Noir National Forest. The descent through the Ravin du Monna then leads to the cliff-top path, which allows you to walk along the cliffs of the Dourbie valley for a long stretch, downstream from the gorges. The views are beautiful, but the path requires great caution throughout. The end of the route allows you to make a leisurely return to the Puncho d’Agast viewpoint, from where the world-renowned engineering masterpiece that is the Millau motorway viaduct is revealed, with its remarkable elegance and lightness. A loop passing by the Creissels waterfalls, with return trips to enjoy the heights of the Causse du Larzac and the viewpoint overlooking the Millau Viaduct and the Cirque du Boundoulaou.

Starting from Creissels, there is a combination of marked trails, created on the initiative of the Millau Grands Causses Community of Communes, allowing you to discover the area by following in the footsteps of Mr Clapassou. (Symbolic iron signpost in the shape of a pile of stones) Don't miss the Creissels waterfalls, the Moulin de Tournal mill and the Cirque de St-Martin (or Cirque du Boundoulaou). At the end of the route, you can visit the lower, very pretty part of the village, right on the banks of the Tarn.

This route offers superb views of Millau and its viaduct. Leaving the valley, you reach the legendary Larzac Plateau.

With all due respect to its illustrious neighbour (the Montpellier-le-Vieux site), the Caoussou chaos is a ruiniform formation rich in concretions, certainly more modest but just as interesting to discover. A family walk with a gradient suitable for both young and old.

During a walk through the woodland, you’ll reach a promontory overlooking the Dourbie, offering a stunning panorama and, if you’re lucky, the sight of vultures in flight.

Discover an ancient silver mining village and troglodyte dwellings. This walk immerses us in history and heritage. Take the time to make a detour to the hamlet of Le Minier, which was once famous for its silver mines. Yellow markings.

The Oppidum de la Granède, an archaeological site nestled on the northern slope of the Larzac, is the birthplace of Millau. The path leading to it offers a splendid view of the town, the Causses and gorges, and the Viaduct The path to the Granède oppidum is like a journey back in time. At this archaeological site, Gallo-Roman and early Christian remains, as well as three lines of walls (dating from the Bronze Age to the Late Roman Empire), have been unearthed. The route follows the northern edge of the Larzac, offering exceptional panoramic views over the Millau basin

A short walk in the forest, with a few viewpoints over the Aveyron valley and the Aubrac plateaus, and even the Plomb du Cantal on a clear day. The yellow markings on the walking and hiking trails will help you follow this route easily.
