Park in the car park at Peyrelade.
(S/E) From the car park, head left to begin a steep climb up to the château. Then, turn right onto the path that runs alongside the ramparts for 400 m until you reach a Fork in the road.
(1) Turn left, then immediately right onto the path that climbs through the woodland and joins the wooded plateau of Puech de Fontaneilles, after making a wide left-hand bend. You’ll come out onto a forest track.
(2) Take a short detour to the right to reach, 300m away, the television mast and enjoy the view over the Trébans valley and the village of Le Bourg.
(3) Retrace your steps and continue straight on along the forest track until you reach a track.
(4) Head left towards Le Piédestal, 400 m away, where you can enjoy a view of the Tarn valley, the village of Rivière-sur-Tarn and the hamlet of Caylus, perched on the hill opposite.
(5) Retrace your steps back to the fork.
(4) Head down the forest track opposite, which winds its way down in wide bends and eventually leads onto the road to Fontaneilles.
(6) At the road, turn right until you reach a stone cross.
(7) Take the path on the left leading to the hamlet of Les Caves d’entre Deux Monts.
(8) Return to the road and follow it down towards Fontaneilles.
(6) Pass the first track on the right, then a second on the left, to reach the church square.
(9) Then take the second street on the left. At the stone cross, take the path that runs below a farm shed and continues on to Louradou.
(10) At the Louradou cross, take the path on the left which climbs up to the hamlet of Peyrelade. You can then take the opportunity to explore the castle, a 12th-century fortress, where a visit allows you to retrace life in the days of the Lords of Rouergue.
The return to the car park at the starting point is a quick walk (S/E).
And the little refreshment bar at the castle at the end is always welcome!
