In the footsteps of Marie Dubois
On1 May 1988, the “Marie Dubois” walk was inaugurated. This walk “for freedom and tolerance” aims to revive the route taken by Protestants from the Metz region between 1685 and 1789 to attend services in Ludweiler (Saarland). We cover only a short section of these paths through the forests of Landonvillers and Courcelles-Chaussy.

Route in the Warndt Forest in Saarland near Warndtweier
Very well-signposted paths in the Warndt Forest (Saarland), a few kilometres from Creutzwald. You’ll follow the Hugenaux Trail, which crosses this German section.
The paths are made of schist with patches of sand, then there is a forest road and some stonier paths (small gravel). You will also use a section of the Nordicpark.
The paths are always at right angles to one another, so it is difficult to get lost.

Around La Mutche and La Claire Forêt
This route has two distinct sections. After following part of the path that circles the Étang de la Mutche, you will then reach the Claire Forêt. There you will discover a second, very interesting pond. This route alternates between open stretches and woodland. The paths are very well maintained and pleasant to walk on. The German military cemetery is a truly remarkable point of interest. Steeped in history, the site is impressive for its setting and grandeur.
The Fort aux Fresques
Maginot Line Fort A24, known as the “Fort aux Fresques”, consists of an entrance block and three combat blocks. Its uniqueness lies in the various humorous murals depicting the life of a fortress crew, as well as the mottos and names of the different underground galleries.
There is a single departure time for tours: please arrive 10 minutes before departure.
A feast for the eyes in Montdidier
The main highlight of this route is Montdidier. Perched on a promontory, the village offers remarkable views across the entire area. The orientation table and various facilities allow you to make the most of the site. Half of the route runs along the edge of the forest, which is very pleasant on hot days.
The route is signposted by the French Hiking Federation (horizontal yellow line).
Walk along the Chemin des Étangs in Flocourt
Short hike suitable for children to discover the Petit Étang and Grand Étang lakes. You can observe the flora and fauna... birds of prey, herons, muskrats, frogs, ducks, Egyptian geese, swans, cuckoos, deer... depending on the time of day and the season... there's something for everyone.
