Longeville-lès-Saint-Avold walks

A magnificent hike in the La Houve forest, accessible to the whole family. Passing through Merten, La Ferme aux Cloches, the Miners' Trail, the Oak of the Cats, the fountain, the statue of Saint Christopher, Falck, the water tower and arrival at the car park.

On1 May 1988, the “Marie Dubois” walk was inaugurated. This walk “for freedom and tolerance” aims to revive the route taken by Protestants from the Metz region between 1685 and 1789 to attend services in Ludweiler (Saarland). We cover only a short section of these paths through the forests of Landonvillers and Courcelles-Chaussy.

An easy route awaits you for a round trip through the countryside, passing pastures, meadows, crops and orchards, and skirting the edge of a wood where you can discover a very distinctive area of military architecture: the Aquatic Maginot Line.

Very well-signposted paths in the Warndt Forest (Saarland), a few kilometres from Creutzwald. You’ll follow the Hugenaux Trail, which crosses this German section. The paths are made of schist with patches of sand, then there is a forest road and some stonier paths (small gravel). You will also use a section of the Nordicpark. The paths are always at right angles to one another, so it is difficult to get lost.

Circular walk around the small village of Suisse near Morhange. A walk comprising 50 per cent on footpaths and 50 per cent on quiet country lanes.

This route has two distinct sections. After following part of the path that circles the Étang de la Mutche, you will then reach the Claire Forêt. There you will discover a second, very interesting pond. This route alternates between open stretches and woodland. The paths are very well maintained and pleasant to walk on. The German military cemetery is a truly remarkable point of interest. Steeped in history, the site is impressive for its setting and grandeur.

A tarmac path leads to the former Simon Quarry, whose sand was used to fill in tunnels at the bottom of the coal mine. At the bottom of the quarry, a lake has formed; the water level is gradually rising, allowing the natural environment to reclaim the area.

Maginot Line Fort A24, known as the “Fort aux Fresques”, consists of an entrance block and three combat blocks. Its uniqueness lies in the various humorous murals depicting the life of a fortress crew, as well as the mottos and names of the different underground galleries. There is a single departure time for tours: please arrive 10 minutes before departure.

A very pleasant walk along the route of an old railway line that was used to supply the Maginot Line fortifications further east.

This route mainly follows paths through fields and, as you walk, reveals magnificent panoramic views of the Saulnois region. Its highlight is the discovery of Mont des Saints, a site undergoing transformation where a series of monumental statues is gradually being erected. Launched in 2023, this ambitious project is led by sculptor Michel Dardaine, whose expertise is bringing the first Lorraine figures to life. The project is a long-term undertaking that will span several decades, offering visitors the pleasure of seeing the site evolve over the years. When you reach the summit, where the route passes, take the time to enjoy an exceptional 360° view, opening onto vast, luminous and particularly photogenic landscapes.

This walk takes place on wide, often shaded paths. It plunges us into the heart of history as we traverse the hill crowned by a forest known as the ‘Camp des Romains’. This is a protohistoric oppidum. There are many traces of it to be seen. We owe much of the discovery of the cave to Régis, our fellow explorer. He is the great-nephew of Jacques Marsal, one of the three discoverers of the Lascaux cave. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree...

The main highlight of this route is the extraordinary tunnel of greenery, stretching for over a kilometre. This path has recently been restored thanks to the municipality of Xocourt. It was originally a narrow-gauge railway used to transport limes produced in the village of Tincry in the early 20th century. This tunnel offers some remarkable views. It is also worth noting that half of the route offers superb panoramic views towards Delme.

Walk on the limestone plateau of the Côte de Delme, between the north (Juville) and south (Puzieux) orientation tables, passing by the Juville quarry. You will discover many views of the Seille valley.

A route allowing you to discover one of the highest points in the Saulnois region, at the summit of the Côte de Delme, offering an unrivalled view of the Moselle hillsides.
