Park in Rue de l'Ombre in Hestroff.
(S/E) Start at No. 3 Rue de l'Ombre and follow the numbers in descending order. At the junction, turn sharply right into Rue Principale. Then take the first street on the left. At the fork, take the path on the right (leaving the house at No. 13 on your left). You will reach a crossroads with a wayside shrine.
(1) Continue straight on, passing the water tank on the left and following the path. Enter the forest, continue due west, then turn due south and further on reach a new crossroads at a place called Red Cross.
(2) Then turn left (north-east). Continue through the forest along a path running parallel to the previous one. You will come to a wide track, pass some blockhouses and return to the crossroads with the wayside cross.
(1) Continue straight on, go down the Chemin du Château d'eau, pass the cemetery and the church; at the junction of the Chemin du Château d'eau and Rue des Noyers, turn right and then immediately left.
(3) Follow the yellowPR® markings. Join Rue de la Forêt. A pleasant walk through the woods and past the blockhouses. Observing the fortifications along the path will help you understand the explanations during your visit to the fort.
(4) Complete the circular tour of the fortifications to reach Fort aux Fresques. The tour is superb. There is a sheltered area with tables and benches where you can eat; ask the volunteers at the fort for permission – they are very friendly and also sell beer.
(5) Take the track to reach Rue de la Forêt. Turn left and return to the junction of the path you took earlier.
Follow the same route back to the junction with Rue des Noyers.
(3) Turn right, walk past the school before returning to the car park where you started (S/E).
