Car park on site at the junction between the Sentier de la Mutche and the Chemin de la Mutche.
(S) With your back to the river, leave the small road on your left and take the Chemin de la Mutche, with the pond on your right. After a stretch through the woods, the path runs alongside the road until it reaches a junction.
(1) You are now level with the Parc de Loisirs, with its facilities and beach. You can head there and visit it by taking the road on your right. Then continue along the Chemin de la Mutche for about 1.2 km until you reach the site of the old campsite.
(2) On your left, you’ll see some old bungalows. These are the remains of facilities built around thirty years ago, which are currently undergoing a complete renovation. Walk past the bungalows and continue on to the riverbank; just beyond the embankment, you’ll find the start of a path.
(3) Ignore the path on the left and follow the dyke. As you walk along it, you’ll feel as though you’re immersed in the lake and right up close to the aquatic wildlife. Then take the path on your right, continuing to follow the edge of the lake. You’ll have a great view of the leisure area directly in front of you, with its beach and water sports centre. The path enters the woodland and reaches a junction. Continue to the right through the woodland; after almost 500 metres, you’ll reach the entrance to a magnificent observation deck on your right.
(4) Turn right onto a small jetty leading to the observation deck. Then retrace your steps and continue along the path for a few hundred metres until you reach a Fork in the road.
(5) Turn left onto the path ahead. Head straight on towards the north-east and, when you reach the D78, follow it to the right until you reach the entrance to a path leading into the Harprich Communal Forest on the other side of the road.
(6) Cross the road and continue along the path in front of you until you reach the D674.
(7) Cross the road carefully (be careful, as it is busy) and carry on along the track until you reach the Claire Forêt. Enter the forest and you’ll come to a Fork in the road.
(8) Turn right. 200 m further on, at the next junction, ignore the path on your right and carry on until you reach the German cemetery (14–18). Walk along the eastern edge of the cemetery for about a hundred metres.
With your back to the cemetery, follow the road for about 200 m, then take the first path on your left. Walk alongside the beautiful Claire Forêt pond until you come out onto the D674 road near the railway line.
(9) Cross the road carefully and continue along the path beside the railway line. Walk past the business park. The path moves away from the railway line and takes you back to the car park where you started (S/E).
