A short tour of Saint-Avold

Start from the car park of the Oderfang day camp*, Rue de l'Ermitage.

(S/E) Take the tarmac path directly opposite the day centre heading due south, passing the Club Vosgien premises. At the end of the path, take the tarmac road and go under the bridge.

(1) Immediately after, turn right onto a path running alongside a property. At the corner of the property, continue left until you reach the tennis courts. Turn left onto a small path (navigating the bends) and emerge onto Rue de la Chapelle. Follow it to the right for approximately 200 m.

(2) At the block of flats named “Camille Claudel”, turn left onto Rue des Jardins. At the end of the street, cross Rue Clemenceau and take Rue Houllé, which is almost opposite and slightly to the right. Walk for about 200 m.

(3) Turn left into a narrow lane that climbs between two houses to reach Rue du Cimetière. Be careful not to miss this turn! Turn right (it climbs quite steeply for about ten metres) and at the end of the street, turn left. Walk alongside the cemetery below, which houses the graves of soldiers from recent conflicts. Then begin a long descent down Rue en Verrerie and pass the barrier.

(4) Shortly after the barrier, go left under the D603 bridge and follow Rue en Faïencerie, which will take you to Rue Barthélémy Crusem. Turn right, pass the school complex and immediately turn left onto Rue de Liévin.
Walk past La Fontaine secondary school; the road ends behind a block of flats but continues along a path (with bends) and leads onto Rue de Couhé. Cross the road, take Rue des Coccinelles directly opposite and follow it to Rue des Généraux Altmayer.

(5) Turn left and continue to the last house in the housing estate.

(6) Turn left into the bridle path, first called Allée du Capitaine Bastian and then Allée du Colonel Delpit, and follow it to the end, running alongside the American cemetery. You will reach the D633 (Avenue de Fayetteville).

(7) Cross with extreme caution as cars drive fast and there is no pedestrian crossing. Turn left to join a small path to the left of the Wall of the Missing and reach Rue de Naples.
At the traffic lights, cross the road and turn left onto a footpath running parallel to the road. At the second junction, turn right onto Rue de l’Ermitage, which takes you back to the starting point (S/E).
