Description of the walk

From the N33 towards Carling, take Route du Puits on the right at the first junction and park in a small schist car park.

(S/E) At the far end of the car park, follow a path on the left that runs alongside the road until you reach a second car park about 300 metres further on. Leave the woods and join a path on the right that follows and runs alongside the road. Walk for about a hundred metres: watch out for traffic! The American military cemetery is on your right.

(1) Cross the road carefully to reach the tarmac road opposite, which is much safer, and follow it to the right. At the roundabout, near Ets Grison, turn left onto a fairly wide path that crosses an industrial estate and enters the Zang Forest. Walk for about one kilometre.

(2) Turn sharply to the right. Continue to the Route de Jeanne d’Arc, cross with care and follow the track opposite at the end of a small car park.

(3) Ignore the return path on the left and carry on straight ahead, staying on the same track. After a short, fairly steep climb, you’ll reach a junction.

(4) Turn left, ignore the path branching off to the right and, just after the bench, turn left again onto the second path and climb gently along the switchbacks to a large boulder: this is the Edelweiss Rock, offering a view of the Carling petrochemical complex.

(5) Immediately turn left and descend rapidly along a narrow path for just under a kilometre. At the bottom of the descent, turn left and join a wide path. Turn left.

(6) A tunnel leads under the motorway; do not take it, but continue along the path that runs alongside it, then, a little further on and still keeping to the left, follow a wide forest track which leads straight back to the tarmac road you took on the way there.

(3) Head left and, 300 metres further on, take a undulating path on the right.
After 700 m, turn right down a small slope and join the Route de Jeanne d’Arc near the post sorting office. The American military cemetery is opposite.

(7) Walk along the road to the left on the pavement and, just before the entrance to a housing estate, cross the road carefully to follow a path on the right that runs alongside the American cemetery. This Allée Bastian later becomes Allée du Colonel Delpit and leads back onto the N33 after curving to the right.

(8) Turn right, passing the cemetery entrance (with a sequoia on your left). Immediately afterwards, take a path on the right, then veer sharply left to return to the starting car park (S/E).

in the car park on Rue du Puit, at the back of the street, take the exit on the left and not at the end of the car park

Running between the motorway and the factories, this walk is quite noisy. Fortunately, there are some lovely views to enjoy, such as the Craling power station, the Edelweiss Rock and the American cemetery.
