The area around Luçay-le-Mâle and its castle
This walk first takes you to the Étang de la Foulquetière. You then cross through magnificent woodland before returning to Luçay-le-Mâle via paths and small country lanes. You will then discover its heritage, notably its (private) château. Some sections follow the route of the Benjamin Rabier discovery trail.
Route of exploration of the cellars and cliffs of Faverolles-en-Berry
This walk allows you to explore the surroundings of Faverolles-en-Berry, a town on the northern border of the Indre department, and its heritage, such as its church, the troglodyte dwellings and cellars, as well as the ‘cliffs’ and tuffeau quarries.
The Nahon Valley, between Vicq-sur-Nahon and Langé
This hike starts in Vicq-sur-Nahon and takes you to the western hills overlooking the Nahon valley. It leads you to the Château de la Moustière and then the Château de Langé. You will then follow the Nahon river to climb the eastern hills. You will take part of the Benjamin Rabier discovery trail.

From the shores of the lake to the Chartreuse from Chemillé-sur-Indrois
In Chemillé-sur-Indrois, the vast lake cannot be seen at a glance. You will need to walk along it, then move away, explore the forest to discover a charterhouse, before finally returning and climbing up to get a better view. A route that will delight lovers of nature and heritage.
From the former Abbey of Saint-Genou to the châteaux of Palluau-sur-Indre
This walk starts at the Abbey Church of Sainte-Marie in Saint-Genou and allows you to discover, amongst other things, the beautiful surrounding countryside, the banks of the Indre, the Church of Saint-Sulpice and the feudal (private) castle at Palluau-sur-Indre, the old cellars now inhabited by bats, and the small (private) château of La Joubardière.

Countryside and vineyards in Lye
This walk in the northern Boischaut region of the Indre, on the border with the Loir-et-Cher, offers a chance to explore the area around the village of Lye. You’ll come across the Church of Notre-Dame (12th–16th century) and, in the distance, the Château de Saray (private), as you follow the Traîne-Feuilles stream. Narrow roads and paths will take you to the Lye vineyards, which form part of the Valençay and Val de Loire appellations, where you can admire the vineyard house ‘La Loge à Perrin’.
Le Chêne Girault from Saint-Hippolyte
Leaving Saint-Hippolyte, you set off on a short loop through the countryside. After a short stretch beside the Indre, you'll wind your way through the fields to discover a number of hamlets, as well as the woods overlooking the village.
Fontguenand, in the valley of the Petit Rhône, a tributary of the Fouzon
Fontguenand, a small village in the far north of the Indre department, on the border with Loir-et-Cher, is crossed by the Petit Rhône, a tributary of the Fouzon. This walk allows you to explore the surrounding countryside, typical of the Boischaut-Nord region, from vineyards to cereal fields, passing by the little chapel at L’Epinat.
Walk in Saint-Aignan
A walk through a pretty, typical village in the Cher Valley, with its tuffeau stone houses, some of which are half-timbered. The village is dominated by its imposing castle, whose courtyard and terraces offer beautiful views over the valley and the village rooftops. At its foot, the Romanesque collegiate church features remarkable capitals, wall frescoes and a large crypt.
In the heart of the Gâtine region from Bridoré
Leaving Bridoré, with its lake and impressive castle, you set off on a walk across the plateau overlooking the Indre valley. In the middle of the fields, the wide open spaces offer beautiful views of a castle in the distance or simply the green Indre valley.
The ‘Chemin des Caves et des Loges’ trail around Mareuil-sur-Cher
This locally well-known walk will take you on a tour of the countryside around Mareuil-sur-Cher. You’ll discover the quarries where the tuffeau stone was extracted, which was used to build the houses and later to age the wine.
You’ll pass through vineyards and farmland, with views over the Cher from the watchtowers and winegrowers’ tool sheds.
The return journey follows the banks of the Cher to complete this easy circular walk.
From Mareuil-sur-Cher to Saint-Aignan-sur-Cher, following the banks of the Cher
This unpretentious one-way route is an invitation to discover the banks of the Cher and admire one of the remains of the dams regulating the river, complete with its operational building. Partially shaded, it is particularly beautiful and the light is at its best if walked in the afternoon from 4.00 pm in summer. The town of Saint-Aignan is in talks with the riverside landowners to extend the path for the final kilometre and a half.

This pleasant walk allows you to explore the surroundings of the village of Sainte-Gemme, situated within the Brenne Regional Nature Park. It takes you through a variety of landscapes: fields and meadows, woodland and a pond.
From Chambon to Bonneau, from the hillsides to the Indre Valley
This pleasant walk starts in the hamlet of Chambon, near Villedieu-sur-Indre, and follows the southern slope of the Indre Valley to the village of Bonneau, returning via the northern slope, with some lovely views.
Chemin de la Minardière in Billy
This nature trail, listed under the Departmental Plan for Sites and Routes (PDESI), is representative, in its first section, of the Cher Valley with its open spaces of farmland and small woods, and in its second section, of the typical Sologne landscape with its forest of oaks and birches. It is particularly popular when the heather is in bloom.
Route through the Paulnay countryside
A pleasant walk offering the chance to explore the countryside around the village of Paulnay, situated in the Boischaut Nord natural region, within the Brenne Regional Nature Park.
The Cher and the vineyards at Saint-Georges-sur-Cher
Starting from Saint-Georges-sur-Cher, the walk takes you past the port, the chain ferry, the Gueule du Rio and the old wash house. It continues past the Château des Couldraies and the Moulin de Chézelles, then on to the Prieuré de la Chaise. The walk allows you to discover a few hamlets, such as Les Bruyères and La Chauverie, as well as Les Raimbaudières.
Route of the beautiful mansions at the heart of the history of Saint-Georges-sur-Cher
A large car park is available for cars and motorhomes at the start of this walk through the vineyards and hamlets, which will take you on a journey through the history of Saint-Georges-sur-Cher from Gallo-Roman times, through the Middle Ages, right up to the present day.
The Mills and Vineyards Route in Saint-Georges-sur-Cher
This route lies at the heart of vineyard landscapes. Vine growing was already the main industry in the Middle Ages, and these ‘clairet’ wines were enjoyed throughout France. The wines were transported by boat from the port of Saint-Georges-sur-Cher. The numerous vineyard huts or shelters remind us of how winegrowers organised their work in days gone by. These served as places of rest and shelter for the workers and their horses, who toiled from dawn until dusk.

From Azay-le-Ferron Castle to Preuilly Forest
This hike starts at the Renaissance castle of Azay-le-Ferron and takes you into the heart of the Preuilly forest. It offers some unexpected points of interest: a monument dedicated to the Resistance, a pond nestled in the undergrowth and glimpses of the Haute-Touche animal park.

Chenonceaux Castle circular - vineyards - banks of the Cher
Ah, Chenonceaux! Without a doubt my favourite château. Exploring the surrounding area is a real pleasure, with vineyards, peaceful villages and the banks of the Cher. Very peaceful, even if there are a few hills, but it's for a good cause: views that are well worth seeing and seeing again. Hybrid or mountain bikes are recommended. Lunch breaks are available in Chenonceaux, Bléré or Saint-Georges-du-Cher.

Please note: hikers have informed us that the Chenonceaux bridge over the Cher river is undergoing repairs until 15 June 2019. The walk as described will therefore not be possible during the first quarter of 2019. Please check before setting off.
