Bonnefont walks

A lovely circular route alternating between countryside and woodland. Stunning panoramic views of the Pyrenees. Bonnefont, a charming little village where the Marquis de Montespan once lived.

This is a typical countryside walk for the whole family. Apart from the distance, which is a little long, it is not difficult. However, I recommend doing it on a clear day to fully enjoy the view of the Pyrenees.

Short walk around Lake Puydarieux. Bird sanctuary with access to huts. Route almost entirely marked with yellow signs to be followed in an anti-clockwise direction. Sometimes the markings are difficult to see, damaged or missing. A few paths are difficult to see.

A short walking route starting from Lac de l’Arrêt Darré, which can be completed in under 3 hours even with plenty of stops. You’ll enjoy a splendid view of the Pyrenees mountain range. This route is suitable for Nordic walking; allow 2 hours including warm-ups and stretches. The lake’s surroundings are an idyllic spot for a picnic and a nap. Sports facilities and equipment for repairing your bikes (road bike 81) are available, as well as a treetop route. A charming little restaurant completes the welcome at this site.

A lovely circular walk with long stretches through the woods (very pleasant in summer) and a beautiful view of the Pic du Midi de Bigorre at the start. Pass near the Tumulus de l'Estaque and enjoy a superb view of the Château de Malvezin. I recommend doing the walk in this direction, otherwise you won't necessarily see the château!

A walk steeped in local history. Starting at a 12th-century Cistercian abbey, a pleasant path leads to the 14th-century Château de Mauvezin de Gaston Phébus. Take a break on this rocky outcrop, which offers remarkable 360° views. The return to the abbey follows a downhill path through the woods.

Orignac has a rich history, as evidenced by the Castériou site, believed to be an ancient Roman fortified camp. The 12th-century church, built on a hillock and surrounded by a circular cemetery, indicates the existence of a defensive enclosure in the Middle Ages. A lignite mine, south of the village, was in operation until 1947. Animal fossils have been found there. These include mammals, the oldest from the Tertiary period, including the gracile hipparion, ancestor of the horse.
