Fontrailles Springs Route

Park in the car park at Fontrailles Town Hall.

(S/E) With your back to Fontrailles Town Hall, head towards the junction near the church and turn left onto Chemin de la Chapelle Saint-Roch. Pass the chapel, leaving Chemin de la Garenne on your right, and continue to the next bend.

(1) Leave the road and take a dirt track on your right. At the top of the hill, turn left and continue along this track until you reach the three-way junction.

(2) Take the path on the right and cross the woodland, passing the hamlet of La Tuilerie, then Baron, and continue to the junction with the Chemin du Village.

(3) Turn left onto this path, continue to the junction with the Route Trie-Miélan (D17) and turn right onto it. Be careful as you’ll be walking alongside a busy road. Cross the River Osse and carry on until you come to a path branching off to the right.

(4) Turn right onto Chemin de La Caoue. Continue along this stony track and, at the four-way junction, turn left to reach the junction with Route de Trie-Miélan (D17). Cross carefully, then head straight on along Route de l’Église (D43) to the next junction, which is very close by.

(5) Turn left onto the Chemin du Pic du Midi and, at the junction with the Route de Mazerolles, turn left; further on, turn right and take the Impasse du Joulard. When you reach the hamlet of Les Barbats, the tarmac road continues straight ahead into a dirt track. Continue to the crossroads, about ten metres away.

(6) Take the dirt track on the right and continue to the junction with a tarmac road. Carry on straight ahead along the stony track until you reach the junction with the Chemin d’Antin. Turn left, pass the hamlet of Les Capéras and continue to the Croix de Sarthe.

(7) Leave the road and take the dirt track on the left. At the entrance to the woods, ignore the first track branching off to the left; carry on for a few metres and take the second track on the left. Stay on this track until you reach a tarmac road. Head straight on and, after a right-angle bend, continue to the junction with the D17.

(8) Turn right, then after a few metres, turn left onto the Chemin de la Chapelle Saint-Roch. At the first bend, leave the road and take the dirt track opposite, which leads into the woods. Continue to the crossroads a few metres further on.

(9) Turn right and continue to the next crossroads, which you have already passed on the way there. Turn right and rejoin the path you took on the way there.

(2) Turn right and retrace your steps along the path you took on the way there to return to the town hall car park (S/E).
