The Caesar Trail in Bugard

This is a typical countryside walk for the whole family. Apart from the distance, which is a little long, it is not difficult. However, I recommend doing it on a clear day to fully enjoy the view of the Pyrenees.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park near the church in Bugard at the crossroads.

(S/E) Take the D136 north for about 800m.

(1) Turn right at a right angle onto the dirt track that crosses the fields. Immediately turn left at a right angle after about 60 metres. Follow this track through the fields until you reach the hamlet of Puchéou.

(2) Take the small tarmac road on the left, and after another zigzag turn, you will come out onto the D136.

(3) Turn right and follow the road slightly uphill. At the next crossroads, turn left onto the wide path that climbs for a few metres. Continue left at the next fork. Stay on this path and continue straight ahead. You will reach the crossroads of the track leading to Lasserre.

(4) Ignore this track and continue south-west.

(5) Cross the D21 and continue to the junction with the path leading to the Lizon Reservoir.

(6) Turn left onto this path, descend, cross the D136 and continue straight ahead to the Réservoir du Lizon lake.

(7) Walk along the lake to the end, turning right.

(8) Turn left onto the wide path that climbs uphill. Leave it quickly on the left to take the wide path that climbs and descends, heading north, into the Bois de Bonnefont. Stay on this path until you reach the D21. Continue along this path until you reach the junction with the D21.

(9) Turn left onto it until you reach the bend, then immediately turn right onto the dirt track. Continue through the woods and then along the edge of the woods, crossing the Lizon stream on the posts that serve as a footbridge.
You will soon come out onto a small tarmac road.

(10) Take it to the right and join a new road at the crossroads with a cross. Turn left to return to the starting car park (S/E).

A very pleasant hike accessible to all
The only downside is that you must be careful not to follow the yellow markings after the Lizon reservoir, otherwise you will end up on the D17 and have to walk back to Bugard along the road for at least 3 km
Very nice picnic spot on the banks of the Lizon reservoir

A very pleasant hike for exploring the Hautes-Pyrénées hinterland at a leisurely pace.
The Lizon reservoir after stage 7 is truly magnificent.

15 February: this hike is magnificent, with views of the mountains and a picnic by the lake, with hardly anyone else around.
An IMPORTANT detail at marker 9 of the hike, just after the calvary, do not follow the dirt road (marked), otherwise you will end up in Lustar!!! which adds 5 km to the hike!!! (which is what we did). The correct path is immediately to the left!
There are few flowers to see (a few daffodils), but for flowers and hikes, visit http://flore.bigorre.free.fr

Hello everyone
Hike completed today in beautiful weather, lovely views of the Pyrenees mountain range. You can follow the yellow markings, but only up to point 9. After that, you need to rely on the good description provided by Visorando.
Best regards

Hello,

The trail markings are poor, so it is essential to have a map of the circular route or a GPS device.

The signposting is not the responsibility of the author or Visorando. That is why Visorando provides a detailed description and a 1:25,000 IGN map. And, to top it all off, if you have any difficulty finding your way, there is a GPS app.

A+
