Park by the bridge at the entrance to Ponsan-Soubiran (municipal campsite).
(S/E) Cross the Petite Baïse bridge and walk past the church in Ponsan-Soubiran.
(1) Turn right and walk alongside the castle grounds. Just past the first house, turn left and head up into the Bois de la Hagéde for 2 km. Reach the hamlet of Bernet by turning left as you leave the woods. Turn left and walk past Bernet Castle (19th-century, built to replace an older manor house) and its church.
(2) At a junction, turn right, then left towards Monlaur-Bernet (700 m), crossing the irrigation aqueduct twice. You’ll reach the village of Monlaur-Bernet; walk round the church on the right.
(3) Head left and continue straight on along a white gravel track for 500m, which leads to the Chapel of Saint-Roch (a small rural shrine built on the highest point in the Gers, at 337m). Carry on, passing two tracks on the right, and join the tarmac village road (D150).
(4) Head downhill to the right for 200 metres along the road; at a bend, turn left onto a path that runs alongside a copse.
(5) At the bottom, turn left and walk alongside a meadow until you reach the Roques farm. Take the path opposite, which descends for 700 metres towards the village of Ponsan-Soubiran. On the road, turn right and, following the same path, return to the bridge (S/E).
, particularly of the Pyrenees, some beautiful buildings (Bernet Castle, Saint-Roch Chapel, etc.) and numerous picnic spots. The only slight downside is that the signage is a little poor in places, but the route description and map more than make up for this. We recommend it!
