Start from the car park at Tajan church.
(S/E) Walk down to the crossroads and turn left. Pass a road on the left, then another on the right, and continue along the Chemin du Bernet to reach the crossroads at the hamlet of Mathieu.
(1) Head straight ahead and turn right onto a stony track. Continue to the four-way junction.
(2) Turn left, cross the Gers river and continue along the Chemin de Peyrolou, which becomes a forest track . Please follow the signs carefully: continue to the crossroads.
(3) Turn right and take the Chemin de la Cravette uphill. Pass two tracks on the left and continue uphill. Almost at the top, you’ll reach a T-junction.
(4) Turn right and continue until you find a path branching off to the right signposted “Fontaine de la Tuile”. Take this path downhill, pass the Fontaine de la Tuile and continue until you reach a stony forest track.
(5) Turn right, then quickly take the dirt track on the left until you reach the junction with the Route de Tajan.
(6) Turn left and further on you will find a country lane on the right. Follow this dirt track until you reach a road junction. Turn right and continue until you reach a T-junction. Turn left and continue until you find a country lane on the right.
(7) Turn right, then left at the crossroads. Continue and go straight ahead at the next junction. As you continue, leave a track on your right to turn left and stay on this track until you reach a T-junction.
(8) Turn right and stay on this track. You’ll come to a small tarmac road; turn left. Continue to the junction with the D 929. Take care on this busy road.
(9) Turn right and follow the D 929 for a short distance before turning right at a place called Lafon. Continue to the three-way junction and take the left-hand track. At the three-way junction, take the rural path of La Coste opposite. Continue along this dirt track until you reach a tarmac road.
(10) Turn left to reach the church square (S/E).
A lovely walk through the woods – I loved it and would happily do it again, especially as I cut it short; I’ll do the other section another time.
