To the north of the Tarbes–Tournay road, you’ll discover this magnificent tourist spot in the Coussan area.

Recent improvements have made it a favourite spot for the people of Tarbes.

A short walking route, starting from Lac de l’Arrêt Darré, which can be completed in under 3 hours even with plenty of stops. You’ll enjoy a splendid view of the Pyrenees mountain range. This route is suitable for Nordic walking. Allow 2 hours for this, including warm-ups and stretches.

The area around the lake is an idyllic spot for a picnic and a nap. Sports facilities and equipment for repairing your bikes (road bike 81) are available, as well as a treetop route.

A charming little restaurant rounds off the facilities at this site.

Description of the walk

From Tarbes, go via Séméac and Sarrouilles on the D21 to the Lac de l’Arrêt Darré car park.
From Tournay, go via Bordes and take the D14 to the junction with the D21, which leads to the Lac de l’Arrêt Darré car park.

(S/E) Follow the D21 towards Tarbes for 180 metres.

(1) Turn right, crossing the D21 with care, and follow a path that climbs up towards the hillsides to the D49.
Cross theD49 with care, then continue uphill before turning right and following this road downhill for 1.3 km.

(2) At the junction, turn right.

(3) Head up to the left towards Coussan along this narrow path.

(4) Turn left and walk through Coussan.

(5) At the junction, head straight ahead.

(6) Take the path on the right.

(7) At the junction with the Chemin de la Bordette, head straight ahead towards the east, cross the D14 with care, then continue for 120 m.

(8) At the junction just before L’Arros, take the path on the right, heading south, then south-west; cross the D14 carefully in the opposite direction and continue to the D21.

(9) Cross the D21 with care, and follow the Ruisseau de l’Arrêt Darré upstream for 1.15 km.

(10) Turn left onto the D614, cross the bridge over the river, and follow the road to Gonez.

(11) Leave the main road that runs through Gonez, and turn right, heading west, up towards the hillside. Climb up to Larriou (340m).

(12) Return to the road and continue to the right, descending towards the lake along a narrow path.

(13) Turn right towards the embankment and cross it to reach the car park (S/E).
