Baraigne walks

A magnificent, very easy walk along the hillsides above Lac de la Ganguise with lovely views of the lake and the Lauragais. Views, in the distance, of the Montagne Noire and, on a clear day, certainly of the Pyrenees. The paths are wide and well-maintained, either grassy or stoned. A few roads to cross but no walking on them.If the lake level is low, it should be possible to take a detour along the shore.

A very pretty little circuit, without any difficulty, offering superb views of the Lac de la Ganguise, the hillsides and the Pyrenees. There is very little tarmac, with most of the route following wide, clean paths. The starting point offers a chance to discover the magnificent little castle of Belflou.

The Collines du Vent route then takes on its full spectacular dimension: the pechs are swept by winds blowing alternately from the Mediterranean (the autan or marin) and the Atlantic (cers). There are few trees on the hills, which also means that there is little shade in summer, so the sun beats down hard on the hills. A spectacular and iconic 48.2 km online route in the Lauragais region, the "Collines du Vent" connects Avignonet-Lauragais and Fanjeaux. Numerous windmills are dotted across these first hills of La Piège, taking advantage of the generous winds that blow alternately from the Mediterranean (the Autan or marine wind) and the Atlantic (the Cers). The first section to the Seuil de Naurouze offers historical, architectural and religious discoveries, as well as magnificent panoramic views, with the surprise of the hamlet of Montferrand. The second part takes you up through the hillsides towards the Pyrenees once more, despite the presence of a few more local roads. A real escape, a breath of fresh air in the Lauragais!

This hike offers beautiful views of the Pyrenees and Lauragais and allows you to enjoy the tranquillity of the canal while admiring its engineering structures, such as the small port of Gardouch, the Aqueduct des Voûtes which spans the River Hers, and the Renneville Lock.

Discover the different landscapes of the Lauragais. Along the route, which is not difficult but hilly, you will find dirt tracks, historical remains and sites, and charming villages. This hike requires a little navigation, so an IGN map will be a great help.

Through the typical Lauragais countryside, this route will take you to the village of Vallègue and its lake, allowing you to enjoy beautiful views, particularly of the Pyrenees, along the ridge paths.

From the Lac de Lenclas site, it is worth making a short detour to visit the pretty village of Saint-Félix-Lauragais. Most of the hike is on roads.
