A pleasant and fairly varied route, of moderate difficulty. Starting point at Lake Lenclas, a pleasant and peaceful spot where you can park and have a picnic.
Suitable for families, with alternative routes to avoid difficult sections.

Description of the route

Lake Lenclas car park.

(S/E) From the car park, cross the dam then turn left along the Rigole to the D113.

(1) Cross it and continue to the D58.

(2) Follow it to the right: first climb. Take the second road on the right towards the hamlet of La Borie.

(3) At the hamlet, turn right. Before that, at the top, enjoy the view of Montmaur Castle and the surrounding area.

(4) After 50 metres, turn right onto the downhill path. Follow this path straight on for about 2 km.

(5) Turn left up a slight incline, then follow the path downhill.

(6) Turn right and follow the path for about 850 metres, until you reach a wood.

(7) Turn right, continue north-east, cross the D113 and keep left.

(8) Before Les Cassés, turn right (opposite the Chemin du Fort). Caution: steep descent around the hill to a road.

(9) Turn left towards the village of Les Cassés and veer right at the cemetery.

(10) On the outskirts of the village, cross the D43, then turn immediately left onto the road leading into the village via Chemin du Couvent. Follow it to the main road (D191).

(11) Turn right onto this main road and, after the village, don’t forget to turn right again, then tackle a steep climb up to the Moulins de Caune and de Gibert.

(12) Turn right to return to a track and follow it to a road.

(13) Take it on the right to join the D113, which you follow to the right downhill to the entrance to the village of Les Cassés.

(14) Before the stream, turn left onto a straight road to the hamlet of La Plagnole.

(15) Turn right onto a path until you reach a road.

(16) Turn right and continue to the D43.

(17) Take the road on the left. The rest of the route is a gentle descent.

(18) Don’t forget the final right-hand turn onto the D67 at the hamlet of La Bergerie to reach the lake car park (S/E).

Did this today on e-bikes (one mountain bike and one hybrid) going in the opposite direction to the route. Absolutely brilliant! Stunning views and a great variety of scenery. The ride alternates between quiet tarmac roads and trails, with two or three climbs where the electric assist comes in handy. The sections along the water channels are very pleasant. Definitely worth doing twice rather than just once. Thanks

A very enjoyable mountain bike route that can also be done on foot, as the vast majority of the route consists of paths (in fact, three walking routes intersect this 26km route with 326m of elevation gain); nothing to report, otherwise thank you!
