Parking and departure from the village of Les Cassés in front of the school.
(S/E) Opposite the school, turn right onto Rue de l'Église, then Rue du Fort. Cross the D113 (Villefranche road) and follow Chemin du Fort. At the next crossroads, continue straight ahead and climb up a dirt track to the old mills.
(1) Le Bucher des Cassés. Turn right onto the platform of the old fort that once sheltered the Cathars, with a 360° view of the Lauragais plain. Historical information on display.
Retrace your steps and return to the crossroads and the small road. Turn left to reach the junction with the D113.
(2) Continue straight ahead for 1.6 km along the grassy path, passing the Caussanel quarry on your left.
(3) At the junction with the local road, turn left towards Saint-Paul and continue to the crossroads. Continue straight ahead, turning left downhill, then follow the road on the left to see the façade of the private château of Saint-Paulet.
(4) Retrace your steps and return to the crossroads.
Turn left onto a dirt track, cutting across a farm track after about 100 metres. Follow this track to the right for 2.2 kilometres, ignoring the adjacent tracks. You will come to a tarmac road.
(5) Continue straight ahead, passing in front of an old building that housed a spring water collection system, to reach another tarmac road near an old flour mill.
(7) Turn right to find yourself below the village of Montmaur. Follow the tarmac road for 650 metres and take a dirt track on the left that climbs towards the village. You will arrive at Rue de la République.
(7) Turn left. Climb towards the town centre where you will find the wash house on your right (picnic area) and the castle (remarkable) and church on your left. Walk around the village.
Return to the entrance of the village by going around it to the west.
(7) Turn right onto the dirt track, go downhill and take the first path on the left to return to the tarmac road at the bottom of the village.
(8) Turn left, follow the road to a crossroads about ten metres before the D1. Turn right onto a road, then take the dirt track opposite in the bend. After 900 metres, turn left onto a tarmac track towards the Arnaques farm. Pass the buildings and you will reach the D1117.
(9) Turn right carefully onto the road, then immediately left onto the dirt track that crosses the Ruisseau du Marès. Turn right onto a dirt track, then left and right again to reach a T-junction.
(10) Turn left onto a wide dirt track that climbs and then continues along the edge of the woods, turns right and enters the woods on the left.
(11) At the crossroads, turn right onto the dirt track that climbs towards the Lauraguel farm, then follow the tarmac road that passes in front of the Château de Biès.
(12) After 400 metres, turn right onto the dirt track, which is then paved, and descends towards Les Rougès.
(13) Turn left onto the dirt track without crossing the Ruisseau des Marès stream. Continue for 950 metres towards the village of Les Cassés.
(14) When you reach a fork in the road at the entrance to the village, turn left onto a dirt track to rejoin Rue Principale, then turn right towards the school car park (S/E).
