This lovely, easy walk will take you to a very alpine setting in just a few dozen minutes from the car park. The climb to Lac Noir is gentle and the scenery is very pleasant. You then reach Dormillouse at 2,505 metres, the highest point of the walk, after a steep but easy climb. There is a splendid view from the fort at the summit and the return journey is via the spectacular military path overlooking the Blanche valley.

This pretty route through meadows and woods is not difficult and the elevation gain is very moderate. It is a family walk suitable for young children. It offers some beautiful views and allows you to discover the grassy slopes of Gentiane, Wissgrut and Tremontkopf, as well as little-used forest paths.

The Pissoun waterfall is a pretty waterfall that is easy to access. This circuit around the valley via the Portes de l'Enfer and their cliffs offers beautiful forest and pastoral landscapes and the trail is relatively easy.

This lovely, easy walk with very little elevation gain is accessible to all and allows you to discover the beautiful landscapes of ponds, woods and meadows, where you will find the two vast ponds of Malsaucy and Véronne, as well as the Maison Départementale de l'Environnement (Departmental Environment Centre) and its remarkable exhibitions.

This beautiful walk will take you from the charming village of Auxelles-Haut to the summit of the Planche des Belles Filles. You will cross the vast moorland of Mont Ménard with its statue of the Virgin Mary, protector of the village, and the thatched roof of the Querty. Several beautiful viewpoints punctuate a walk offering beautiful forest scenery.

This long circular hike will take you through or past a large number of remarkable, picturesque and spectacular spots, and you’ll have the satisfaction of having climbed the Ballon d’Alsace with a significant elevation gain – something not everyone gets to do. The route can be completed in a long day’s walk, provided you are in good shape and set off early in the morning. It is very manageable over two days at a more leisurely pace, with an overnight stay at the Ballon d’Alsace.

A lovely and very easy walk in the exceptional setting of the Swiss National Park, home to marmots, ibex, chamois and the park’s iconic bird, the spotted nutcracker. The atmosphere is quite wooded, with alpine pastures and clearings, dead trees… In the national park, nature is allowed to evolve with as little human intervention as possible, resulting in often stunning landscapes.

It is very easy to walk around the summit of Ballon d'Alsace on a wide, easily accessible path. The route I suggest here is much longer but also more spectacular. It is a real little hike, sometimes a little alpine, along picturesque, little-known and little-used paths. It is more demanding than what we are used to in the Vosges and is reserved for experienced and well-equipped walkers. As with any hike, do not start it at the end of the day, as the duration can vary greatly depending on your fitness and experience, and it is dangerous at night. Please note that in spring there may still be snow (or even a lot of snow). Moderator's note added on 26/08/2021: Some hikers have found this hike to be quite difficult in certain sections. This lovely route offers superb views of the Ubaye Valley, the Pain de Sucre and the Chapeau de Gendarme. A mix of woodland and meadows, and a hidden wetland area off the path. Moderator’s note : reviews of this hike suggest that a GPS device or the Visorando app may be useful Warning! Changing vegetation and the lack of signposting make this walk unpredictable if you do not feel confident navigating terrain that is sometimes difficult and off-trail. Rely on your eyes (traces of previous passage, topography), a 1:25,000 map (which will give you a larger viewing area than a GPS screen) and your GPS (to know where you are and how to orient your map).

This beautiful alpine walk will take you through a beautiful, uncrowded valley, along a path that is sometimes steep. Cliffs, torrents, waterfalls, and perhaps the chance to see a mountain goat.

Le Creux du Van is one of the most famous geological formations in the Jura. This immense cirque with its impressive vertical cliffs offers steep landscapes that contrast with the gentle neighbouring pastures. This is the hike to do to discover the Val de Travers. It is very easy to see ibex here, as they are used to walkers.

This walk through the hills above the small village of Fresse will allow you to enjoy a pleasant woodland atmosphere and some unexpected views of this little-known valley. Please note: as this is mainly a woodland walk, the Club Vosgien’s route description and signposting will help you find your way without difficulty, provided you pay attention to changes in direction...

A beautiful hike that will take you to the easy summit of Les Monges, a magnificent viewpoint with a 360° view.

This unpretentious little walk will allow you to enjoy some lovely rural and woodland scenery just a stone’s throw from the centre of Belfort. As an added bonus, a few old boundary stones with engraved coats of arms mark the route.

This lovely, short and easy route offers a touch of adventure: it involves crossing a stream over a few tree trunks forming a makeshift footbridge, then wading across another one with your shoes off – a refreshing experience guaranteed.

This short route in Comps-sur-Artuby offers a change of scenery, with an almost mountainous atmosphere in its short forest section. Magnificent views of the river gorges (the Artuby) and the impressive cliffs, at the top of which you can look for chamois. Vultures can often be seen gliding overhead.

Île Saint-Marguerite is a lovely destination for a day trip. In Cannes, head to the port from Boulevard Jean Hibert (paid parking). There are regular shuttles every thirty minutes and the crossing takes ten to fifteen minutes.

A lovely walk in the Esterel, best done in spring to enjoy the flowers, whilst avoiding the summer.A few easy climbing sections on the final ascent. A lovely circular walk along the cliffs overlooking the Doubs valley. Breathtaking views and distant panoramas (you can see the Ballon d'Alsace 50 km to the north). At the fort, the League for the Protection of Birds organises an annual monitoring of migratory birds. This walk is best enjoyed in good weather for the exceptional views and the feeling of being in another world, far from the valley below.
