Sanvensa walks

Circling the village of Sanvensa, this route will take you past seven crosses, a church, a castle and a chapel. The view over the Monteils valley is a highlight of this walk.

The loop first follows a model of the solar system on a scale of 1/2 billionth along the GR®36, then plunges into the Assou valley to discover the natural and vernacular heritage of the commune of La Rouquette. The route features numerous information panels describing the landscapes you will encounter, their history and the local heritage. The hike also passes through a wetland rich in plants and animals typical of these environments.

An easy family route along the banks of the Aveyron and the hills above Villefranche-de-Rouergue, where you’ll discover charming mills and a beautiful view of the town.

Hike through agricultural land, alternating between the stony paths of the Causse plateau to the west and the chestnut forests typical of the Ségala region to the south-east. Remarkable rural heritage punctuates the trail: cazelles and garriottes, stone bread ovens, wash houses and Quercy houses with conical roofs. This route is marked along its entire length: aPR®: yellow markings (namedPR®2on the wooden signs) which sometimes follows theGRP® route: red and yellow markings.

Passing by the Tower and the Roman bridge of Cayla, come and discover these wild valleys of the Aveyron and Lézert rivers.

An excursion along the banks of the Aveyron river, dominated by the medieval village of Najac. Below the village, the route is mostly shaded and runs peacefully along the river.

A route to discover the diversity of the landscapes and architecture around La Bastide l’Évêque: the picturesque village of La Bessière; the Pont de Vézis, a bridge dating from the early 20th century built to support the commune’s mining industry; and the plateaus offering magnificent views over the Ségala and the unspoilt valleys of the Lézert and the Aveyron.

A beautiful hike through the side valleys of the Aveyron valley, taking you from the highest point of Le Mauron (at the water tower) to the lowest (along the Aveyron).

A lovely walk of about 2 hours, with a shortcut to descend directly to the Aveyron from the VVF via a poorly maintained path – which is why I’d rate the difficulty as moderate – but we really enjoyed this section through the vegetation. The rest is easy and magnificent, whether along the banks of the Aveyron or through the village of Najac, of course.

Short circular walk around the village of Saint-André-de-Najac through woods and countryside. Hiking trail no. 2

Starting from the village of Saint-André-De-Najac, this lovely hike with a few steep climbs and beautiful views will take you through the hamlets of La Boucarie, Granouillet and La Séverie, through woods, along the Viaur River and across the countryside. Hike signposting no. 1

Starting from Saint-André-de-Najac, an almost non-stop walk through the woods towards the small village of Laval, passing through the hamlets of La Capélanie, Laval, L’Herm, Fouloubal, La Boucarie, La Séverie and Le Combal. Hiking trail no. 6 ( signposting currently being installed)

Starting from the village of Saint-André de Najac, passing through woods, meadows and hamlets, you will discover the banks of the Viaur on a pleasant loop to the village of Lagarde Viaur, which is well worth a visit. Hiking trail no. 5

On the edge of the Viaur valley, this rural hike offers a variety of pleasures. History buffs will not be indifferent to the various sites visited: the Mégalithe du Cheval du Roi, the Chapelle Saint-Amans de Cadoule and, finally, the Roman bridge at Bergougnoux. Nature lovers, meanwhile, will be delighted by the many panoramic views stretching as far as the Monts du Cantal and the Pyrenees, a real treat for the eyes.

A short walk offering magnificent views of a little-visited part of the Viaur Valley. The path provides access, via a 100-metre detour, to the remains of the ancient Pont du Diable, which was swept away by a flood in 1786.

Wild and secretive, the Viaur valley reveals its charms only to the most curious. The Viaur flows peacefully, surrounded by deep gorges and dotted with numerous mills and swimming areas.

A varied route, with changes in elevation and scenery, mostly flat, along the shaded banks of the Viaur to enjoy some coolness in hot weather and a bit of elevation to build up your legs.

This unpretentious hike, between river, woods and meadows, allows you to follow the Viaur and admire its valley. Don't forget to visit the pretty little village of Lagarde Viaur, a former stronghold, which has retained its beautiful, well-restored houses. This hike is recommended in spring when the trees are in leaf and the flowers are in bloom.

Hike in different environments with the damp valley floor and drier hillsides, discovering old mills, an old quarry and a cave.

A lovely hike starting from the hamlet of Béteille in Saint-André-de-Najac and heading towards the hamlet of Belpech, passing through country lanes and forests, with the River Aveyron flowing gently in the distance. A circular route that will take you a little higher up before descending again, following the Darse stream which flows into the Massar sinkhole. Several fountains along the route.

Perched on its rocky outcrop, Jouqueviel Castle, from the Occitan "joc" meaning perch and "vielh" meaning old, lives up to its name. Its ruins remain a testament to feudal life, having valiantly resisted the ravages of time. You will walk along the banks of the Viaur, which will take you to the 12th-century Chapelle des Infournats, and continue on through the pretty little hamlets of L'Ouradou and Lauretié. Follow the signs for "sentiers de Lauretié L'ouradou".

A route not far from Martiel, offering views and a chance to commune with nature.

During this circuit, you will discover a geological curiosity, the karstic caves of Py and Rouffiès, composed of fairy chimneys. The village is picturesque with its 13th-century church and bell tower surrounded by four pinnacles. The second part of the circuit offers a view of the village and the crossing of the Aveyron on an old bridge, the Pont du Cambon.

Walk in the Causses du Quercy Regional Nature Park. Enjoy the wild beauty of nature and magnificent scenery. See a typical Quercy village, a 13th-century priory, majestic dolmens and caselles (gariottes). Photography enthusiasts, get your cameras ready.

This countryside circular walk circles the pretty valley of the Ruisseau de Candour, taking in a bucolic landscape punctuated by the passage through hamlets and small, timeless villages. Pleasant in summer thanks to the many shaded sections, this circular walk is recommended in spring or autumn for the colours nature displays during these seasons. There are tarmac sections on quiet country lanes, but these do nothing to detract from the overall charm and tranquillity of the route.

Set off on an exciting and enriching walk. Their ecological and heritage value, the result of history and nature, earned these ponds their designation as a Natura 2000 site by the European Union at the very start of the century. Twenty years later, the SMBV2A and Rural Concept are responsible for preserving these environments. Together with the ponds’ owners, managers and users, they help to maintain these fragile ecosystems. Be observant and respectful of the environment – some wonderful surprises may await you.

This walk starts at the Place du Foirail in Laguépie and continues through the village of Saint-Martin-Laguépie, crossing the bridge over the Viaur and following the Ruisseau de Bonnaval to reach the Saint-Pierre plateau, before descending to the Ruisseau de Candour and crossing it. This section follows theGRP® des Gorges du Viaur exactly. The path then heads towards the Viaur, first along the right bank and then the left bank of the Candour, before joining the D9. The walk then climbs to the summit of the Saint-Eugène peninsula to reach the Viaur and returns to Laguépie along the left bank of the river.

1-hour discovery hike. You will discover several dolmens, including Bois Del Rey, Bois de Galtier, Devès des Gleyettes and the Cloup des Gleyettes basin.

A long circular route that follows the course of the Aveyron river via theGR®36and gently returns to Laguépie from the plateau dotted with hamlets and livestock farms.

Follow theGR® 36 trail up the Aveyron river, then take the small country roads back to the village of Laguépie.

This countryside hike starts in the small village of Verfeil-sur-Seye and takes you through woods, shady valleys and plateaus to the former Cistercian abbey of Beaulieu-en-Rouergue, now a contemporary art centre, located in a truly green setting. This makes up for the short off-trail section, which requires attention, a good sense of direction and... strong legs.

From the square in front of Mirandol-Bourgnounac Town Hall, a path will take you to the Pont de Cirou, an ancient Roman road, on the banks of the Viaur. Take care on the first few technical kilometres by mountain bike up to the Pont de Cirou. This 14th-century bridge, the oldest crossing over the Viaur, was used to link the Aveyron to the Tarn. Along the Viaur you will discover the Moulin de Pignac, This route can be done on foot or by mountain bike (marked for both mountain biking and walking).

This is a lovely half-day walk to enjoy in all seasons, offering a chance to discover the local heritage of the Carmausin region. __WARNING! From June 2022 until further notice, this path is closed due to the risk of rockfall.__

A beautiful hike that will take you from the shady banks of the Viaur to the Pont de Cirou site. In Pampelonne, if you wish, you can visit the ruins of the Château de Thuriès, which overlooks the rocky bend of the Viaur. Finally, to finish, stop at the Vieux Mirandol viewpoint before returning to your car. This circular walk starts from Saint-Clair de Margue, a hamlet belonging to Salvagnac-Carjac. On this walk, you will walk along roads without meeting anyone. You will take paths between low walls that mark the boundaries of plots of land. You will see magnificent landscapes on both sides. You will be in the shade most of the time, but also in the sun on other sections. You will discover the Gouffre de l'Oule.
