Park in the square in front of the church in Flauzins, which can accommodate six to seven vehicles.
(S/E) Walk past the church and continue along the wide path that follows the road out of the village. In a sharp left-hand bend shortly after a building, turn right and go through a wooden gate to reach the viewpoint over the Viaur valley.
(1) Enjoy the magnificent view of the river below.
Be careful, as the viewpoint on the rock is exposed and presents an objective risk. Keep a close eye on young children.
Return to the barrier and continue on the right, slightly downhill.
(2) At the fork, turn left onto a wide, fairly steep, stony path that climbs up the slope and leads to the hamlet of Sauzet. Turn left at the crossroads, walk about a hundred metres and then take the road that climbs up to the right (containers at the crossroads).
(3) After about 200 metres, leave the road and take a wide path on the left. Pass the information board and continue to Puech de Flauzins (623m).
(4) From the hill, the 360° view takes in the surrounding mountains and valleys, dotted with numerous small villages. The climb to the observation tower, built for watching migratory birds, offers an even clearer view stretching as far as the Monts du Cantal and the Pyrenees on a clear day. Turn back.
(3) Continue left on the road to reach a crossroads.
(5) Turn right and, a few metres further on, turn left, following the sign for the Cheval du Roi viewpoint. 500 metres further on, leave the road and take a grassy path that climbs to the right and leads to the site, easily recognisable by its grove of conifers.
(6) Enjoy the view, which stretches for dozens of kilometres and even further (Montagne Noire and Pyrenees). After reading the information panel about the megalith known as the Cheval du Roi (fragment of an ancient dolmen), turn back to the road, walk about 100 metres to the right and then turn right again onto a wide grassy path that offers a superb view of the village of Lescure-Jaoul to the north.
Return to the tarmac road at a farm building, turn left then right at the hairpin bend at the fork ahead.
(7) Just after a building, leave the road and take a grassy path that descends to the left. At the crossroads, ignore the path on the left and continue on the right to begin a winding descent into a wild gorge surrounded by beech and hazelnut trees.
(8) At a bend, leave the path on the left and continue on the right to reach the clearing that houses the Chapel of Saint-Amans de Cadoule. Admire the site and the beautiful restoration work on the roof undertaken by a volunteer association, then retrace your steps.
(8) Take the path on the right that overlooks the Jaoul torrent to quickly reach the small power station. At the penstock, follow the path that turns sharply to the right and leads to the power station.
Turn left onto the steep little tarmac road, which will test your legs and your stamina, and continue until you reach a small signpost on the left (keep an eye out so you don't miss it). Leave the road and take the path on the left, which leads in a few minutes to the site of the old mill and the Roman bridge at Bergougnoux.
(9) Return to the road and continue climbing until you reach a priority road sign. Turn left onto a wide grassy path that descends to a small reservoir and leads to a footbridge.
(10) Cross the footbridge and turn left onto the second path (do not take the one that runs closest to the reservoir). Return to the tarmac road at two restored houses and continue to the D71. Follow this road to the left, using the hard shoulder whenever possible, and reach the village of Lescure-Jaoul (be careful, as there is no pavement on the left-hand bend before the village and visibility of approaching vehicles is zero).
(11) Just after the town hall, turn onto the small road on the left, then turn left again to follow a pond and arrive at the buildings of Blazals.
(12) Leave the road that branches off to the right and pass between the buildings. Follow the road, which gives way to a wide path, to reach a tarmac road at a place called La Combette.
(13) Follow this road to the left, then turn right at the next fork and continue to a crossroads.
(14) Continue straight ahead, pass the cemetery and return to the car park at the start in front of the church (S/E).
