Between Sienne and Hambyotte, this route invites you to discover the Normandy countryside via numerous sunken lanes where, in the meadows that line them, Prim'Holstein cows, originally from Holland, mingle with Normande cows, the region's emblematic breed. At the end of the route, Hambye Abbey awaits you with its13th-century chapter house.

Hiking around Coutances No. 10.A lovely walk around the River La Soulles.This short walk takes us along paths and small local or district roads on a journey through the valley and hillsides of one of Coutances’ three rivers, the Soulles, in the villages to the south-east of Coutances.The route passes by some very pretty local stone houses (or outbuildings from old farms).

Coutances, the historic former capital of the Cotentin, offers a contrasting spectacle of countryside almost within the city. This hike takes you through the outskirts of the town, winding its way through the three valleys that surround it, each with its own lazy river. Half on land and half on roads or alleyways, the urban passages allow you to discover a small part of Coutances' heritage, despite the industrial area that spoils the pleasure a little, but you quickly forget about that.

This picturesque little village, nestled in the heart of the Sienne Valley, will enchant you with its peaceful setting and lush greenery. Its few houses, built from local stone, surround the church. You will notice that the slopes of this valley are covered with beech trees, whose hard, uniform wood is used in carpentry and cabinetmaking, as well as simply for firewood.

This idyllic route winds through the commune of Orval, surrounded by the River Sienne and its tributary, the Soulles. The route offers beautiful views of the bocage and the town of Coutances, and allows you to discover unspoilt, rich natural surroundings.

Starting from the medieval church in Orval, a short walk along sunken paths and a quiet country lane leads to an old mill on the River Soulles.

Situated in the heart of the Coutances countryside, the village of Hambye overlooks the surrounding area with a landscape of extensive hedgerows which, as you follow the route, provide a stunning natural backdrop to the abbey ruins and offer a valuable insight into the landscapes of the Normandy valleys, with meadows—some of which are wet at the valley floor—and woodland on the slopes.

This walking route offers a route combining history and nature. You’ll pass by some exceptional monuments and walk through a picturesque setting. For lovers of nature and historic buildings, Gratot is a little haven of peace on the outskirts of Coutances.

Ce territoire, facilement accessible de la côte et de l'intérieur du Cotentin par des chemins de grande randonnée constitue un trait d'union géographique entre Saint-Lô, la capitale du cheval et Coutances, Pays d'art et d'Histoire. C'est un territoire vallonné qui comprend de nombreuses zones humides (marais). Il est traversé par la voie romaine (D 535) qui reliait Abrincae, nom romain d'Avranches et Alauna, Valognes.

Appreciated for its tranquillity and beauty, the town of Regnéville-sur-Mer is one of the most beautiful villages in Normandy. Strongly marked by its maritime past, it is pleasant to explore the various hamlets that make it up: Grimouville, Urville, Incleville, Le Rey, etc. Discover the whole town, its history and its treasures.

Starting from the village mill, set off to explore the sunken lanes of Muneville-le-Bingard. Some of the sunken paths were reopened by volunteers from the Bocage et Patrimoine Munevillais association in 2024. A few paths are maintained by volunteers, depending on their availability, and the grass may be a little high at certain times of the year.

A varied hike that alternates between paths and small country roads and coastal trails, with beautiful views and attractive heritage buildings along the way.

This walk alternates between hedgerow paths, country lanes and forest sections, making for a pleasant, partly shaded stroll, ideal in summer. The final path, recently upgraded, leads to the lake whilst offering a lovely view of the wet heathland and La Feuillie church.
