Montferrand walks

Enjoy a carefree walk in the Lauragais plain, surrounded by well-cultivated fields. Return via the Canal du Midi.

This is a magnificent heritage walk between Haute Garonne and Aude around the Canal du Midi. Starting from Avignonet-Lauragais, you will reach the Canal du Midi via Montferrand.

The first section to the Seuil de Naurouze offers historical, architectural and religious discoveries, as well as magnificent panoramic views, with the surprise of the hamlet of Montferrand. The second part takes you up through the hillsides towards the Pyrenees once more, despite the presence of a few more local roads. A real escape, a breath of fresh air in the Lauragais!

A spectacular and iconic 48.2 km online route through the Lauragais region, the "Collines du Vent" (Windy Hills) connect Avignonet-Lauragais and Fanjeaux. Numerous windmills are dotted across these first hills of the Piège, taking advantage of the generous winds that blow alternately from the Mediterranean (the autan or marin) and the Atlantic (the cers). The view stretches far beyond the hills to the Pyrenees and the Montagne Noire. Eleven information panels provide details about the local heritage. Yellow and blue markingsPlease note: follow the yellow and pink markings (those of the Tour de Lauragais) from Laurac to Fanjeaux.

This circular route takes you through the villages of Montmaur, Les Casses and Saint-Paulet, allowing you to discover the castles of Montmaur, Biès and Saint-Paulet, as well as the Cathar Memorial in Les Cassés.

Half of this walk follows its route along theGR® 653 trail, which runs alongside the Canal du Midi, offering shade and coolness.

A very pretty little circuit, without any difficulty, offering superb views of the Lac de la Ganguise, the hillsides and the Pyrenees. There is very little tarmac, with most of the route following wide, clean paths. The starting point offers a chance to discover the magnificent little castle of Belflou.

A magnificent, very easy walk along the hillsides above Lac de la Ganguise with lovely views of the lake and the Lauragais. Views, in the distance, of the Montagne Noire and, on a clear day, certainly of the Pyrenees. The paths are wide and well-maintained, either grassy or stoned. A few roads to cross but no walking on them.If the lake level is low, it should be possible to take a detour along the shore.

It criss-crosses numerous paths and trails along the ridges. You’ll also discover some remarkable mills along the way.

This hike offers beautiful views of the Pyrenees and Lauragais and allows you to enjoy the tranquillity of the canal while admiring its engineering structures, such as the small port of Gardouch, the Aqueduct des Voûtes which spans the River Hers, and the Renneville Lock.

Discover the village of Salles-sur-l'Hers and Lake Régambert, the village and hillsides of the Lauragais.

Through the typical Lauragais countryside, this route will take you to the village of Vallègue and its lake, allowing you to enjoy beautiful views, particularly of the Pyrenees, along the ridge paths.

From the Lac de Lenclas site, it is worth making a short detour to visit the pretty village of Saint-Félix-Lauragais. Most of the hike is on roads.

A pleasant and fairly varied route, of moderate difficulty. Starting point at Lake Lenclas, a pleasant and peaceful spot where you can park and have a picnic.Suitable for families, with alternative routes to avoid difficult sections.

A circular route through the Lauragais hillside allowing you to discover the pretty villages of Caignac and Marquein, mainly on tarmac roads, best done when the sun isn’t too strong or after a spell of rain.

Poor donkey. According to legend, the miller tied a rope around its neck and hoisted it up to the top of the roof so that it could graze on a tuft of grass that was sticking out. You can guess how it ended. In its memory, come and take a walk in these pretty valleys of the Lauragais.

18 km without any particular difficulty on grassy paths and small tarmac roads The trail is marked in yellow, but the markings are sometimes sparse or difficult to find. However, with the attached map, the route is not difficult to follow.

In the heart of the land of plenty, this easy walk starts from the charming village of Saint-Félix-Lauragais and offers stunning views of both the Pyrenees and the Montagne Noire.
