Mehun-sur-Yèvre walks

Mehun-sur-Yèvre boasts a rich historical heritage centred around the Château de Charles VII. This tour of the historic centre is a circular route starting and ending at the railway station, which is served by a line running from Lyon to Bourges, Mehun, Vierzon and Nantes. The proposed walk is designed to introduce visitors to the history and heritage of the area, from the Bituriges-Cubes to the people of Berry today, featuring numerous historic sites such as the Gardens of Duke Jean de Berry, the Château de Charles VII, the Hôtel de la Pucelle d’Orléans… and an insight into two centuries of trade along the main street, Rue Jeanne d’Arc.

This route allows you to grasp the history of this market town that gave its name to the Quincy vineyards. The market town of Quincy is nestled around its marshes at the foot of its church and castle. This historic market town originated from Quinciacus, the Villa of Quincius, mentioned in documents from the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris as early as the 7th century. Agricultural development took place in concentric circles: gardens in the marshes, vineyards on the sandy gravel terraces, then fields extending towards the forest, which continues to encircle the cultivated area. The agricultural landscape thus reveals two millennia of history.

This is a beautiful walk that allows you to discover Reuilly and its surroundings, through vineyards, fields and meadows.

This walk combines a tour of the old town and its main points of interest (including the cathedral, the Palais Jacques Cœur, and streets and alleys lined with beautiful half-timbered houses) with the classic route through the Bourges marshes at the foot of the medieval town (with its many waterways and small market gardens developed since the 17th century). The route through the old town is a minimum loop for those in a hurry, but there's nothing to stop you zigzagging around it to discover little gems around every corner.

This route allows you to discover the marsh, which has been shaped since 1640, when the city of Bourges sold part of its communal land to turn it into usable gardens.The marsh workers surrounded these marshes with outer ditches, dug inner ditches and established service roads.You will discover this work and these gardeners through a superb family walk.

Starting from the water tower at Place Séraucourt, this is a pleasant circular of around 60 kilometres, with no particular difficulties.

Link No. 01. A connecting walk to the ‘Le Tour de Bourges’ route, taking in the Berry Canal and its old locks, which have unfortunately been decommissioned.

A ride following the 19th-century ‘sentes’ in Asnières, the disused Orléans railway line, and the heritage trail of the vineyard huts near Vasselay. Return via the unassuming but very beautiful Edouard André Garden, planted with flowers, shrubs and rare trees.

A lovely circular route starting from Saint-Palais (Cher), a village known for its pottery market and apple orchards. It mainly follows paths through woodland and takes you through unspoilt countryside dotted with ponds.

A short hike in this village in Berry, also known as the "village of the Mountain" by locals. Its undulating paths will take you up to a hilltop overlooking a corner of the Berry Champagne region, where hedges, pollarded trees and copses mingle with agricultural plots. They will also take you down into "hell", passing through "paradise" on the way, to reach the wild banks of the Cher, where you can see some elements that bear witness to the village's history, all in a very rural setting.

During this walk, you can explore the Farges pond and the viewpoint, from the top of which you can admire the Church of Saint Pierre in Menetou-Salon. And, of course, our vineyards. Follow the signposting marked with a bunch of blue grapes.

Things to see: wash houses, fishpond, deer park, Étang de Farge, view of the castle and its vineyard, scenic spots, local heritage. Follow the signs marked with a yellow bunch of grapes.

A short family walk along the waterways. This short route takes in the Berry Canal and the River Cher, where you may have the pleasure of spotting a few swans that have made this stretch of water their home. This walk is very easy.

This walk through the Champagne plains offers a chance to explore the area around the village of Paudy. The paths through the fields and past the wind turbines take you close to the Volvault estate, where the world’s first flying school was established by the American Allies in 1917. You will then reach the hamlet of Vœu. The return journey to Paudy takes you past the village pond. Finally, you can admire the tower overlooking Paudy – one of the remains of the 12th-century castle – and Saint-Martin’s Church.

This easy walk allows you to explore the Champagne Berrichonne region, north of Issoudun, starting from the village of Les Bordes.

In the past, the ploughmen would ‘briole’: they would sing to accompany the heavy tread of the oxen in the fields. Ultimately, it is a slow-paced song, intended to sustain the oxen’s efforts whilst ploughing. By the end of April, everything must be finished.

This route, which can be explored on foot or by mountain bike, starts at the Les Sablons de Corquoy Sensitive Natural Area before passing through woods, fields and forest.

This walk combines the heart of Levet with its lush green surroundings. You can make the most of it by having a picnic near the playground (tennis courts) or by the shaded pond.

A route through the Berry region of Champagne, with a lovely detour into the Auron Valley, whilst following the Canal de Berry. A chance to enjoy the local flora and fauna as well as the charm of two locks. Near Plaimpied, the Marais gardens dot the route. A visit to the Abbey Church of Saint-Martin, overlooking the canal valley, is well worth a detour. Whether at the start or the finish, in Vorly, a stop in front of the listed gateway to the 12th-century Church of Saint-Saturnin is a must.

A lovely circular route between La Ferté-Imbault and Selles-Saint-Denis. Most of this circular route takes you through pretty woods and along a wide path in good condition. Suitable for cycling.
