La Souterraine walks

On the outskirts of La Souterraine, set off on this guided walk which, from antiquity to the end of the Middle Ages, brings to life the daily lives of our ancestors. Human settlement here has a long history, the evolution of which can be traced through the landscape. From the shores of the Étang du Cheix to the sunken paths lined with boxwood, from the archaeological remains scattered throughout the countryside to the imposing silhouette of the castle, this excursion will transport you through time and across the ages.

A short stretch of quiet road marks the start of this route, which winds through the area around Bussière-Madeleine and continues along beautiful paths, crossing the Ruisseau de la Benaize. Charming discoveries also take us in the footsteps of a famous local figure.

Cascading streams, mysterious places of worship and unexpected views set the scene for this short, fairly hilly route through the Versille countryside. You’ll pass from the Sédelle valley to the Chaudron valley, walking over the hills that form the geological fault line of the Marche fault. Where possible, do bring a smartphone to access the information provided along the route.

Here is a short, easy route, at the centre of which stands a fabulous megalith, complete with its inevitable array of curses and frightening legends. The route consists of tracks, a stretch of road and a path, and is combined with a fitness trail between the dolmen and the village.

The Cazine ponds walking guide was produced in partnership with the Conservatoire d'Espaces Naturels and the local association A4P. It highlights the exceptional heritage around two ponds currently undergoing ecological conversion. The pleasant route alternates between distant views and the immediate surroundings of these wetlands. If possible, bring a smartphone with you to access the information provided along the route.

Discover the charming village of Paulhac, with its Templar Commandery (Gothic church and chapel).

PLEASE NOTE: due to heavy rain, the route is currently inaccessible (note dated 17/02/26). The vast Étang de la Chaume lake conceals little-known places that this interpretive route invites you to discover as you walk along part of the shore and wander through the surrounding woods and moors. Please be discreet around wildlife and fishermen, and wear good footwear in wet weather.

A hike/walk in a magnificent site that has inspired many Impressionist painters. Beautiful views of the Creuse valley.

This hike will take you to the Trois Cornes with its many viewpoints over the surrounding countryside. The first part takes you around the foot of the Trois Cornes, leading you to the statue of Saint Valéry, then you will discover the various peaks from which you can observe the surrounding countryside before descending to the Étang de la Valette.

This hike through the valley of painters allows you to discover a stretch of the Petite Creuse and Creuse rivers, as well as numerous viewpoints that have been a source of inspiration for many painters. This is a family-friendly hike with numerous benches and tables, as well as information panels along the way explaining the paintings created in this part of the valley.

A fairly demanding long loop that allows you to walk along or above the Creuse and discover its tributary, the Petite Creuse. Monet painted these banks many times, and with good reason! This hike is best done when the trees are still bare. IBP56 rating

This beautiful hike allows you to discover Lake Éguzon, the steep slopes of the Creuse Valley covered with moors where heather, gorse and broom bloom, and the steep cliffs of the Fileuse rock with breathtaking views of the confluence of the Creuse and Sédelle rivers and the Crozant fortress.The descent to Crozant follows the Sentier des Arts, a trail dotted with works carved into the local rock by five sculptors. Return via St-Jallet and the surrounding countryside.

This walk follows aPR® trail, allowing you to discover the ruins of Château de Brosse, near Chaillac in the Indre department, then the pretty village of Seillant, as you stroll along the refreshing banks of the Anglin river.

Having grown up in Éguzon until I was ten before moving to Limoges, I still have fond memories of my escapades along the sunken lanes of this village in the former Marche region. In the realm of chestnut trees, ferns and Limousin cattle, let yourself wander, loiter and stroll through the bocage of dry stone walls and hollow-trunked trees. Try your hand at hunting the dahut as night falls. Rediscover your inner child by taking your time and letting your calves do the walking

This is a fairly steep and challenging ride for horses. It is fairly easy for riders, especially if they are comfortable with long climbs... Pretty scenery around Les Retouillères. It can be done in either direction, with the biggest climb being on the way to Catheraud on the Puy de Jabreilles side. The paths are quite rocky, so it's best to walk at a steady pace on this ride. The small roads you ride along are quiet, lined with trees and have beautiful verges.

Covering approximately 330 hectares, Lake Saint-Pardoux is the second largest body of water in the Haute-Vienne department. Due to its irregular shape, the tour of the lake is no less than 24 km long. This hike is more accessible in length and takes you along the northern shore of the lake after climbing through the countryside to the outskirts of Chatenet Colon.

This walk starts at the Éguzon dam power station and ends at Jarrige and its wash house. You will then discover Châteaubrun and the Fontaine des Seigneurs. Exceptional views await you at the Cassecou viewpoint, followed by the footbridge built for the 2024 Summer Olympics. You will walk along the banks of the Creuse before arriving at the foot of the imposing dam and ending at a viewpoint where you can admire it.

This hike is suitable for cycling (but it's really mountain biking), walking and horse riding.You can admire the majestic oak tree in Saint-Civran, which is several hundred years old, perhaps even a thousand.

Les paysages sur la vallée de la Creuse sont stupéfiants et variés. Vous verrez des cours d'eau, des forêts, le Moulin de Villard qui fonctionne encore, des vielles maison et des vaches (en saison). Bref un condensé de Creuse en une seule randonnée.

Enjoy a walk in the village of Saint-Plantaire to discover the surrounding countryside while searching for the famous sculptures that are part of the commune's heritage. This route is part of the "À la rencontre de la sculpture" selection, a project aimed at promoting both the heritage and culture of Saint-Plantaire! Can you find them all?

This hike allows you to discover the surroundings of the village of Cuzion, the Chéron moor, part of the Creuse gorges that you overlook at La Roche-Bat-en-l'eau, then you follow the river to the impressive Éguzon dam and its power station.The return journey takes you to La Jarrige and its beautiful wash house, down to the mysterious Fontaine des Seigneurs, then up to the intriguing Château de Châteaubrun and the sculptures of its current owner.

A short walk of less than 10 km passing by the Chapelle Saint-Martin, situated near the Étang des Sagnes, which is on peatland. 90% of the route is on paths and through woodland.

This pleasant walk takes you along beautiful paths and pretty little roads around the village of Dunet, south-west of Indre, in the southern Boischaut region. In addition to the typical hedgerow landscapes of this natural region, you can admire the beautiful bell tower of the 13th-century Saint-Martial church and the 12th-century chapel in Vouhet.Please note: the route has been temporarily modified between (10) and (11) (see Description and Practical Information sections)

This 5 km route, which links two villages, mainly follows very old rural paths, cleaned by volunteers from the Pierres et Nature de Thauron association: two recent forest tracks, created for the exploitation of conifer plantations, and a tarmaced communal road, which has a long history.
