Description of the walk

Car park at the entrance to Les Combes: park just in front of the information sign for Les Combes de la Cazine.

(S/E) Take the small path behind the sign, passing through the wooden gate. Continue along the path through the heather moorland to reach the woods. Head down into the woods to join the path running alongside the stream.

(1) Turn left, following the stream

(2) Leave the return path on your right and continue straight ahead, veering slightly to the left. About fifty metres further on, turn left onto the path, then leave the ascending path on your left and continue straight ahead.

(3) Turn right onto the path sloping gently down towards a meadow. Caution: very wet section near the meadow. Continue straight on to reach an ascending track which will take you to a local road.

(4) Turn right onto the road, take a left-hand bend and continue towards the hamlet of Grosbost.
Turn right at the crossroads, cross the bridge over the Ruisseau de la Cazine, then pass between the buildings. Turn right after them and ignore the first street on the right.

(5) Turn right to pass between two buildings and join a path. Continue along the path which runs alongside meadows and the Ruisseau de la Cazine, which you can see from time to time. Ignore the paths leading uphill on your left and reach a junction.

(6) Turn right onto a very narrow path leading down towards the stream. Cross a small wooden bridge, go down a steep slope to reach the stream, then cross it over the large stones to rejoin the path you took on the way out.

(2) Turn left to head back towards the car park.

(1) Turn right onto the path leading uphill through the woods, cross the heathland once more and return to the car park (S/E).

Definitely one of the most beautiful walks near Dun le Palestel. It’s stunning in spring, especially in the sunshine and when the rivers and streams aren’t too full – with no mud on the paths – it’s pure bliss. The scenery is varied and the route isn’t too difficult.
One slight downside: without a GPS, it’s easy to lose your way in certain spots.

A lovely walk. No problems with the wet meadow at point 3, even though it’s been a wet season. On the way back, when you reach point 2, there’s a proper bridge, so no more trouble getting across! On the way back, at point 1, you can carry straight on along the path – both for a change from the way out and because it’s much less steep.

Hello,
At the start of the hike, there are several paths worn by walkers and mountain bikers, so it’s quite difficult to find your way without markings on the ground.
Just to clarify, we didn’t have the route description or the app with us.
PS: an easy hike in dry weather

A new route, walked during the week, so not very busy; well signposted, very clean and scenic. The walk starts from the cemetery car park, following the yellow markings. It’s a bit longer, taking around 2 hours.

It’s worth pointing out right from the start that you really shouldn’t set off on this hike after it’s rained, as the Cazine stream was absolutely teeming! Luckily, I’d planned the return route in advance and checked, on the way there, where we were supposed to fords the stream (point 6), as the famous large stones were completely submerged and the current was very strong. It was absolutely impossible to cross, unless we swam!
We decided to carry on anyway but to turn back at the village of Grosbost... which we never actually found. At point 3, the junction is very poorly signposted, as we ended up in the village of Lavaugautier after having climbed almost as far as Pierres Aubes.
We were able to check on the way back, as we’d turned back, and well, we never did find that famous path.
This is the first time I’ve been so disappointed by a walk from this site, where I usually choose our routes with complete confidence.

Sorry about that mishap.
I must admit that I did this hike quite a while ago now. However, the route on the map seems quite clear to me.
Kind regards

The directions in the description were very unclear; we turned left as indicated but ended up back at the car park at the starting point, so the walk took 20 minutes instead of 1 hour 40 minutes...
That said, it’s a lovely spot with some beautiful scenery.
