The Faille des Trois Provinces

Park in Place de l'Église.

(S/E) From the square, head towards the grocery shop and take Rue Eugène Pesas. Further on, follow the road to the right towards the stadium and walk past it.

(1) Head up the road to the left towards the village of Lascoux.

(2) After two bends, take the track branching off to the right. After a hairpin bend, you’ll find yourself following a path through the woods which joins the Sédelle stream further on. Continue to the junction marked by a signpost.

(3) From here, we suggest taking a short circular route towards Peu de Châtelus: follow the wide path to the right. When you reach the footbridge, do not cross the river but head up the rocky slope. The path follows the stream upstream and then veers away from it to lead to the foot of the path that climbs slightly. The ascent is steep for about a hundred metres. At the top, the walk continues easily along the edge of the woodland. Head back down to return to the previous junction.

(3) Continue to the right, following the path uphill to the village of Lascoux.

(4) At the entrance to the village, turn left. Follow the wide track to the right as you leave the village. At the crossroads, after the power line, continue straight ahead to the village of L'Aumône. Join the main road and follow it to the left for about 200 m – take care of the traffic.

(5) As you approach the village exit, take a path down to the right of the road. Further down, you’ll come to a small road which you should follow for 50 m to the right.

(6) After crossing the stream, take a new path that branches off to the left of the road.

(7) A three-way junction marks the right-hand track leading to the top of Peu Saint-Martin. Follow this track to reach the base of Peu Saint-Martin. From there, continue along the small path that heads right and leads to a small, isolated cross. The path crosses the undergrowth and heathland, then descends the hillock alongside the Saint-Martin spring. Below the Peu, take the path on the left then pass under the pond’s embankment on the right. Follow the track back up to the main road.

(8) Follow it, descending carefully for about 200 m. Cross over and climb the flight of steps built into the side of the embankment to reach the car park near the cemetery.

(9) Walk down through the car park and rejoin the road further down, which you should follow until you return to the starting point near the church (S/E).

Remember to bring a smartphone, as this hiking route is linked to an audio-guided nature trail that can be downloaded for free from the starting point sign.
Make sure you wear suitable footwear as the route is steep in places (particularly at Peu de Châtelus).

(9) The Lanterne des Morts, situated in the middle of the cemetery: it dates from the 12th century.
(7) The Saint-Martin Fountain, a former site of ancient worship, later Christianised.
Artbotanic, a 3-hectare botanical garden, which showcases the valley through a variety of spaces and atmospheres.
(3) Access to the viewpoint awaiting you at the summit of Peu de Châtelus, on a heathland currently undergoing restoration.
