Gilette and the Estéron gorges
Gilette and La Clue.
From the village of Gillette, perched on a rocky outcrop, this walk takes you to the medieval bridge of La Cerise (scenes from the film "The Hunchback" were shot here in 1997) and then winds through the Estéron gorges.
The banks of the Estéron and the Sainte-Marguerite Chapel
This circular hike, starting from the Pont de l'Estéron, takes you along this pretty river with its turquoise waters before climbing into the forest alongside a small stream and joining small isolated roads towards the Chapelle Sainte-Marguerite (17th century).
The descent is via a pretty path overlooking the Estéron, offering some beautiful views towards the Plaine du Var at the end.
This circuit can also be done in the opposite direction, ending with the section along the river.
Route de Tracastel and Clue de Saint-Auban
Remains of medieval Saint-Auban, breathtaking views of the mountains and a sublime finale at the edge of the Clue de Saint-Auban.
Please note that part of the route is by road.
Bau de l'Arc from Roquesteron
To reach the summit of Bau de l'Arc (980m), you pass through the charming little village of Cuébris. Gorges de l'Estéron starting from Bouyon via Les Ferres
Located in the Pré-Alpes d'Azur park, this is a hike on varied terrain that passes through two villages worth visiting, Bouyon and Les Ferres. You can also admire the spectacular mountain scenery, an astonishing oratory and overlook the green waters of the Estéron, a tributary of the Var.
The route is marked almost from start to finish by signs and yellow markings.
Circular Gars and Briançonnet loop
Circular route from the village of Gars to Briançonnet. This hike takes you to the impressive Source de Gars, the birthplace of Célestin Freinet, pioneer of modern education. It is a varied route that passes through the village of Briançonnet and the ruins of its feudal castle, from where there is a beautiful view of the surrounding area. Both villages are well worth a visit for their rich heritage.
Between Les Ferres and Conségudes
The Estèron valley and its turbulent waters. Most of the hike is in the undergrowth, so it is shaded, with a more exposed return.Moderator's warning on 02/03/2021: Caution! Due to rockfalls, a path is closed. See notices dated 27 February and 02 March 2021.
The Estéron, the Clue de la Clave, Gilette, Chemin de Reculon
This is a superb hike, varied, picturesque and panoramic, with the added bonus of passing through a beautiful village. What's more, it is not too difficult and therefore accessible to most hikers with a little training. It should be added that this route is very often shaded and therefore pleasant in hot weather. The markings and signposts are sufficient to prevent you from getting lost.
Circular loop from Gilette to Pont de la Cerise starting from La Clave
A very beautiful walk, which can be started either from La Clave (Le Broc) or from Gilette.
It passes through varied landscapes and offers a chance to explore the Pre-Alps... whilst passing very close to the Estéron
We have chosen to start this route with the climb to Gilette from La Clave to avoid this difficulty at the end of the hike.
You’ll easily be able to reach the river on three occasions throughout this hike.
Mont Auvière
A beautiful hike above Roquesteron. Magnificent views of the villages of Pierrefeu, Toudon and Mont Vial.
The Roquesteron botanical trail
Discover two villages, Roquestéron and La Roque-en-Provence, historically separated by the Estéron River, which marks the border between Provence and the County of Nice. Roquestéron on the left bank became French in 1860. Take a walk in the forest along a forest trail converted into a botanical trail and discover the trees and plants of the middle country.
The Ferres circular
A circular route that will give you the opportunity to visit the typical villages of Les Ferres and Bouyon and discover the Clue de la Cerise, carved out by the turbulent waters of the Estéron.
The listed Vegay Waterfall as seen from the village of Aiglun
A moderately strenuous but very pleasant walk. It is the largest recorded and listed natural waterfall in the Alpes-Maritimes, with its three successive drops. The waterfall is exceptional and, in terms of height, is matched only by its Icelandic twin sisters. The start and end of this route offer a chance to discover the beautiful architectural heritage of Aiglun. Thanks to its strategic location, the inn is a popular spot at the end of this round trip in the Estéron.
Aiglun, its cave fortress and its waterfall
An exceptional hike, combining history, nature and fitness. The troglodyte fortress is unique, the Vegay waterfall is rivalled only by its Icelandic twin sisters, and the rough section of the nature trail will test your sense of direction. The route concludes with a tour of Aiglun’s beautiful architectural heritage.
